Q-IV or Bravo for 253

A friend just did a re-power and needs to move up a couple prop sizes. He currently runs a Q-IV which I understand is a good prop for this hull. I'm not having any luck finding a used Q-IV but I found a Bravo prop.

How does the Bravo prop work on this hull?

It works ok but I would stick to the hydromotive. We had both the mirage, hydro and bravo. Hydro was #1, mirage #2, and bravo #3. Hydro gave great stern lift, mirage less lift more speed (1-2mph), bravo was just confusing lol... no gains

BTW, the boat was a 1996 253 convincor with a 454 mag 71mph.

my 253 with the 454 mag and a 24" bravo is not even breaking 60, what am I doing wrong?

you're using a bravo... lol

kidding but serious... get rid of it. go with the hydro or mirage. you might hit 65 or so...

mirage or mirage plus? and what size if I curretnly run a 24 bravo?

Thanks,
Rob

could you explain the stern lift? Right now running the bravo it does feel like there is a lot of boat in the water but then again I am not running big power. will more stern lift make it fell lighter or require less trim? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks ,
Rob

Rob, I may have a 23p regular mirage (non-plus) laying around you can try. let me track it down. i prob loaned it out.

i've been telling you a hydro works best on that hull. 23p will be best if you are getting good rpms with the 24 bravo. otherwise try a 22p. thought i saw a 23p for sale recently

23p mirage plus or hydro is the way to go...

I remember, just collecting info, let me know if you find that prop. I need a spare, let me know if you find it and how much you want for it.

Thanks,
Rob

Well we couldn't find a Hydro so he picked up the Bravo 30. I guess we'll see how it works.
