283 w/ 468 600hp
My 97 454mag with 520 hrs is pretty tired. Best I'm seeing on GPS is 60 on a good day. Talking to Bandit Racing in NJ and taking my block and boring to 468 approx 600hp. I'm hoping for 75 mph. Is this realistic? What prop? Currently 22B1, going to 26B1?
|
im going to say with the right prop and set up 72-75 is doable with a true 600 hp.
|
Yup, I agree and i don't see any problems turning a 26B1 with that kind of horsepower. You could maybe turn a 28B1.
My 253 with a stock 502 spins a 24B1 at 4800-5000. |
I just bought a 95 283 wiwth a HP 500. What props run well on these? It seems everyone is running bravo 1. It currently has a ballistic michigan propller unknown pitch. ( i looked all over and could not find a pitch) I was thinking about trying a mirage + 25p but maybe i should looke for a 24 or 26 B1?
|
A 24 or 26 B1 would be a good place to start. That seems to be the prop that hull likes the best. That is also the prop that Kip Combs told me I should run.
With a '95 283 (not the newer notched transom, i believe) and an HP500, I would think you would be OK with the 26. If it had the notch I would try the 26 for sure. |
my 26 with a 375 hp 496 spins a labbed 24 at 4800 ish the notch and small step and rounded bottom must do something to it to make it spin it ok.
|
Does it have a fridge? Dont expect too much speed if it has all the cabinets and such. I currently am running a 28P B1 unknown lab turning it 5k for 68 MPH. I just tried a standard cutting edge lab 28P and hit 71 MPH no other changes. I have tried a lot of props on this boat. So far the New Cutting Edge is a winner. I guess I have 600 HP or so.

What's going on O-Navy!
What is a "cutting edge" cut on a prop? Or is it a brand name? SCT |
Some new brand out of SoCal, Arcticfriends turned me on to it. It made my boat plane easier, cruise out of boost at low speed, and increase my top end a little. There are discussions about the props in the general forum above.

Well boys, just my 2 cents after having 6 to 7 different engines in my 2001 same hull with no notch I think you may be getting a little greedy reaching for the 26-28p props, lower your sights a little, prob gonna be looking for a 24 lab would be my guess, depending on what rpm's you are looking to spin. Like I said though, just my 2 cents based on a lot of testing, 6-7 different engine combos all the way from a 500HP blue motor on up and 40 or so props tried during all this.......
