My New Boat!!
 

Well, I figured that I wasn't going to have the pleasure of making one of these threads until next summer or the summer after, but as fate would have it I managed to not only get a boat this year, but I've already been out on it twice!

It's a 1993 Checkmate Convincor 251
-502ci
1. Mostly stock except an Edelbrock high rise intake, Edelbrock Carb, and MSD ignition
-Bravo 1 drive/24p prop

Boat has 110 hrs since the motor was rebuilt, and most everything else is in great shape. There are a couple things that I would like to take care of this winter, but overall I think it will be a great boat for me to learn my way around on!!

101 things a new boater should know?
 

In reference to your other thread.

1.) NEVER run your engine in the "trailer" position! You will destroy
your drive line. Search the "21.75" dimension threads. That should be
the maximum raised position you should warm up the engine.

2.) Make your passengers supply the frosty beverages. The Captain
has enough things to worry about.

3.) NO fat chicks.

Yup, congrats. Checkmate builds a good boat and the 251 runs and rides well. You will enjoy it.

I thought that boat looked familiar.
You must have bought it from Jim.
I went for a run in it when he was buying it before he brought it from AZ to Colorado.
Nice boat. Handling got a bit funky if you chopped the throttle at speed. I attributed that to a lack of hyd. steering, and it probably wasn't the best prop on it at the time.
I have a couple pic's of it when it was still named "Restitution".
Boat was solid, and I didn't notice any spiderwebs in the gel.
Congrats on the new ride!

Keep a fresh coat of good wax on the Gel Coat. I don't know about your specific boat, but most Checks of that year had a lot of wood in them (some still do). Do your best to keep the boat dry inside.

On the upside, Checkmates are quite light/strong due to their construction and are usually pretty quick in comparison to other boats of the same size/power.

haha yes, same boat, I was wondering if I would ever run into the person who looked at it in AZ. Steering issue is still there....Gel coat needs some restoration and clean/wax. But slowly and steadily I'm getting it bright and shiny again.
