Thanks for the information. I did see the article in P.B. Magazine already. I want to do this, but I am a little concerned about having to cut up the dash for the indicators. I need to get on the boat and see exactly how much room I have to mount the indicators.

I would definitely call Mike at the factory first. He will be able to tell you where you will have enough room to mount the indicators on the dash and will give you very useful info. for this project. I have his number around here if you want it.

Thanks, but I have Mike Coombs number as well.

I have the 280`s on my 259. I orderd them on the boat when I got it. I spend a lot of time on lake Michigan and can`t imagine what it would be like without them. It also helps out with the Porpousing problem that these things are known for. It does`nt take much below neutral trim to keep the bow from taking off either. I`m glad I spent the extra money on them....Roger 1

Roger1,
That sounds great. What kind of indicators do you have? My concern is getting mechanical indicators that will fit where my original electric indicators are. I know the hole would be different, but as long as the hole is larger and still fits in the space I have, I am going to do this project. |
I have Gaffrig mechanical indicators. I don`t know where your original electric one was. Just do whatever it takes and remember that nothing ever ''bolts on''. I`m sure that if you take your time you will do a lot better job than the ''Riggers'' at Checkmate would have!.............................Roger 1

Good news for me. Dana Marine has told me that they can set me up with mechanical over electric indicators. By this I mean there will be mechanical cables attched to the K-Planes which will go through the transom and attach to electrical senders ( mounted right on the inside of the transom). They will send the signal to an electrical guage on the dash. The best part is their guage will fit directly into the hole that I already have in my dash!! :D :D See attached link:

I have these on my 28 Checkmate. Usually run them all the way up until I need a little. They are really great when you want to cruise around slow with the family aboard. They maintain the boat on plane while at lower speeds. They really work great at top end and low end. They are definately a "must have".;)
