FWIW, The hull bottom (length, deadrise and strakes) on the 415 was the same as the 39. When I had Manning Trailers in Michigan build the trailer for mine in 1997 that is what they found after taking the dimensions from the bottom of my 415 and comparing to their prints on the 39.
They built the trailer to the 39 specs and it fit like a glove. I'll pull some old photo's and see where the boat was the widest. Ken |
Turns out all my photo's are pre-digital prints so I had to scan a photo. The resolution is not the best but the 415 fit the 39 trailer like it was made for it.
http://i54.tinypic.com/14tsqqv.jpg As far as the widest point goes, from my old pics it looks like it was right at the windshield. FWIW, I never got hassled for being 6" over width because the chines did not hang past the fenders so it was not obvious. I did however get busted for over length when I towed it with a crew cab 8' bed dually. I forgot the overall length but it was over the limit. I also got busted for over GVW both with the dually and with a 99 Superduty Supercab 2wd Diesel. FWIW, all three occasions were in the state of Ohio. Height was also an issue. I was sweating when I brought the thing home from Baltimore because there were some bridges that were less than 14' and the boat was over 13' with the Radar Array and Spotlights. |
Very good info there Stitch King, thanks..... That's a great looking boat there, too!
I don't know how long my combo is, but it's ridiculous......... http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...erandtruck.jpg |
Sweet boat!
Yep you are a violator too. Gotta be close to 70' overall there. The boat is roughly 42 and I'm guessing that since the tire is on the tongue it's at least 4 feet. The truck has an 8' bed plus I figure another 8' for the cab area and another 4' for the hood. That's 66' plus you gotta add the bumpers and hitch components. You may want to actually measure it just to be safe. Here's a link to towing laws nationwide. http://www.towingworld.com/articles/TowingLaws.htm I'd guess that enforcement depends on how much the PD wants to generate revenue via fees and fines. |

I don't think it's the Excalibur hull - I believe the 390x was built off of the 40' Excalibur hull. The 390x has an 8' beam. The 415 has a 9' beam. Also, the 390x has no port-holes in the hull where the 415 does.
Han www.chriscraftstingers.com Now, the 375/385 Stinger, I dont know where that hull came from?? |
Mild Thunder,
I stand corrected - I just went back through the Chris Craft brochures I have and the 390Xs did indeed have the 9ft beams - not sure where I got 8ft for. Han www.chriscraftstingers.com |

Han www.chriscraftstingers.com By the way I love the four portholes in the side of the hull. Also the way the swim platform goes over the drives and the way the hull is formed. Very nice lines on that boat for sure! |
