Swim platform '82 Stinger 260 (HELP)
I picked up an original teak swim platform for my '82 Stinger in excellent condition. I sanded off the mold/alagee that was growing on it and reapplied about three cans of teak oil so far. It obsorbed the oil as fast as I put it on, probably hasn't been oiled in 30 years. The help I need is how far below the rubrail do I mount it. If someone can send me some pics and measurements of theirs it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Ive actually heard the best thing to do is pressure wash the wood and not sand it. Then apply the oil (lot of it).

Best thing to do is to float the boat and make a mark at where you want the platform to sit.
YOU DON"T WANT IT DRAGGING IN THE WATER UNDER WAY! Make sure its a few inches above the water line so when you sit on it your feet dangle in the water to just below your knees. My swim platform on my 260 was a moulded one so it was a no brainer. I had a teak platform on my 210. http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n202/ve3lt/260b.jpg The water line was about two inches below the lower part of the platform, just above the double pinstripe tape on the bottom. (sorry ... don't have a good pic of the teak platform on my old 210) |
82 with added teak swim platfrom
I'll measure this weekend when I am back on the boat. Don't seem to be able to attach pics

Thanks Billd, I started mounting it today. I'm pretty sure I have it where it needs to be. Of course as soon as I drilled all the mounting holes it started pouring down rain, remnants of Hurricane Isaac...

that looks the same as my 1982 swim platform - but I have significantly larger brakets to attach it to the boat. If I figure a way to add attachments to these replies, - you will see what I mean

I have two brackets like that on mine. Wish I could find two more to replace the ones on the ends.

I love sitting on mine dangling my feet in the water with a beer in hand............ |
