I have never been a fan of tunnel tabs. they are great for a kilo run but they can get you into serious trouble if you make the wrong move with it. you have to remember the history of these boats. they came from the Shadow Cat that George Linder designed. he redesigned it for Chris Craft with wider sponsons to run with big blocks. even though there were some pleasure versions alot were race boats and it was started as a race boat project so manners at 40 to 80 mph was not a consideration. the Chris Cat was state of the art in its day and is still a strong running boat. I know several people with them and none have any desire to sell them so that says alot. when the boat was designed we raced actual offshore events, not the short lake races they pass off as offshore today. these boats had to run out to the light house off key west and regularly saw 5-6 foot seas and still outran bigger boats. Miss Maxon (Tim Ciasulli) came in second in the Lake Ponchetrain race running in open class after outrunning all the unlimited class boats but Popeyes and only because Al sponsored the race and Tim didnt think it would be a good idea to beat him. with 620 horses a side she should run 105 to 110 depending on props, etc. I dont recall but what drives are you running and what height? the boat is a thoroughbred and likes to run and will cruise at 100 all day and is not bothered by the water conditions. open her up and have fun.

Jolley 09-12-2013 09:36 AM

Boat looks great. Does it need a tie bar though or is it ok with just the hyd rams? I have a tab to cruise slow and to get through the hop on my OE Cat, there is a thread on it from '02-'03 when I made mine. I make sure NOT to use it after the hop and never in big water. they will bite in and push down on the sponsons if you are not careful with them. Now air that thing out.. Video please :):) Bill

ridefast77 09-12-2013 02:13 PM

Timmy are we breaking 100 this weekend......i hope so, lets do this!

carolinacopters 09-12-2013 10:29 PM

Comp........I'm running SSMII drives.....propshafts are level with or slightly above bottom, drives are bolted to the stern.....no ext box.

carolinacopters 09-12-2013 10:30 PM

Props turning out

I'm gonna air it out this weekend and try to get some video, my chase pilot has been tied up all week. I do have a steering bar you just can't see it in the pics. I want to fly the chopper myself when I shoot it but I'm very stengy with my cat.

Randy Nielsen 09-13-2013 12:30 AM

Your boat turned out beautiful, maybe someday I will get to see it in person. Randy

With the power you have you should get 102-104. Remember the CC are heavy boats. Congrats on getting it up to 98...

It's crazy.......the more weight I put in the rear seats the faster it goes. Hardly any hop at all.

Timmy as soon as I get some free time I will get you the pics and video we got from this weekend. It was great to get together and looking forward to the next time. And for anyone wondering.........the Chris Cat was hauling the mail, Looks as good or better than a new boat. We ran side by side for quite a while and as I was watching it run saying to myself "I wish I had kept it" Lol. Last but not least the man can fly the hell out of a helicopter. If you want to learn how to fly, Timmy is your guy.

Do your drives have the 2 inch spacers in them? Mine do. I get on plane real quick when I trim in. 475 HP a side spinning 28 inch props I run 83 at 5400 rpm. I have a set of 29's also.

No spacers, I'm running my propshafts level with the bottom of boat. I'm gonna need a set of 31" props. Have any ideas where I might find some?

wannabe 10-09-2013 05:48 PM

Carolina- One of the vendors on here has some 17 x 31 3blades that you should be able to get reworked to 16.5 and should fit the 2's . Check in the propellors sections. It's not Cobra- chk them any way.

Edit: I am about 2 inch below - but get on plane real easy. Apparen3tly before the spacers were added it was tough to get the boat on plane.

Any updates on those 31 props? How fast did you get it to run?

He speaks the truth. I listened very carefully to Sparky Olsen when it came to the tunnel tab. I believe I have a sketch of what Sparky and I talked about for my cat. Nothing more than tunnel extension. Nothing that would be used for preventing or eliminating anything to do with the HOP.
