78 Chris Craft Lancer inboard 350, 23'need info pls

Hello,

1st, thanks for any factual guidance. I am new to this website but not to the marine sport (actually my entire life, just shy of 50 =( ). I am trying to obtain as much information on a 78 CC Lancer as I can. I recently acquired the boat from a family member. The power plant (inboard 350 & gears) all been recently rebuilt, runs and shifts great. I am not concerned with the mechanical aspect but rather hull integrity. Love the hull design and research that I have found tells me they are great hulls. My problem is the previous owner neglected it for the last several (??) years. I believe she was trailer'd her entire life, when I picked her up (salt water (N.J.)) it was uncovered. The interior was severely weathered/destroyed from environmental exposure. The bilge had leaves and water sitting at the transom drains ( stowed on the trailer bow up and the drain plugs were out, but yet standing water at the bottom of the transom ). I have been systematically going through the boat to ensure I don't get to deep into it and then find a surprise. While I can see it is primarily constructed with fiberglass, my concern is, any wood rot???

From what I am able to view/poke, it appears wood may only be on the interior gunnel shelves (which run aft forward) and the transom appears to be wood core but heavily glassed. The shelves are definitely rotted (no problem taking those out)! I removed the drain plug bases and it appears there is wood within the transom. I am able to poke into the wood with dental tools but not with a metal coat hanger end. I do not see any wood in the hull or stringers.

Long story short, I'd really like to connect with a forum of CC or Lancer owners who might be able to provide factual info on the boat. Specifically how the boat was/is constructed and also guidance as to weather or not to pony up on the much needed labor ($$$$) to make her sea (great lakes now) worthy again. Also, other refurb options would be appreciated. I like the option of modifying the transom and throwing outboards on her but unfortunately, financially not an option for me. Plus power plant is already solid. We would really like to keep her afloat/alive and functional but lots of questions I am unable to get answers to.

Thanks for any good guidance/info!

John
