39 center console conversion

I picked up a 390 stinger a few years ago to chop up and build a no frills fishing boat for offshore tournaments. I didn’t document a lot of details but wanted to post what I had.

you guys looking to maintain/restore boats of this era can pretty much assume All the wood is rotted. However the original lamination was quite good.

How did you go about building your hollow stringers and then foam filling them?

hoodoo 06-19-2020 01:56 PM

Pulled them from a 30’ by 31/2” plug.
2” holesaw cuts in stringers/bulkheads and poured 2 part foam. Just be sure you have exit holes.
also filled the the side cavities in stringer grid that weren’t going to have a hatch access. Same procedure, cut two holes, mix and pour.
Completed hull with console w/leaning post live well weighted in at 6115#’s. Was hoping it substantially lighten up the boat but by the time you add diesels and heavy duty drives the boats probably about where it started on weight.

There were two other hulls in this shop at the time, one was a 38 scarab with a mocked up top cap intended for a one off.
The one off cap was used as a mould to build caps for all the hulls and sold to a fourth guy who glassed to a hawk 40. Sorry for the pic quality, some of these are pictures of pics stuck in my previous phone.

Cut the cap at the transom and sides to fit the bigger hull.
