To all the 42 X guys

Hey I am wondering what power you have and what props you are running? Right now we are around 900 hp and about 950 tq and we need larger than 18x31. Wondering what everyone else has to compair to get the right set. Hering 18x31 looking to go maybe 18x33 hering but that might be to much what do you guys think?

Re: To all the 42 X guys

We just sold our 2004 42X. Neil and Bud set it up with 1050 Sterlings. We were spinning 33's. I would recomend going up if you are at 31. The 42x is the easiest boat to put on plane. Ours was the first of the line and with big power. Neil got it up in less than 10 seconds will 33's. The higher the pitch, the more bowrise you will get. If you are looking for all top end. Go with the bigger props. Your boat should be able to spin them with no problem. Just remember about slip coming on plane if you are in fresh water. On our new 46XP we are spinning 35's and they could even go bigger. Run with it!!!

Re: To all the 42 X guys

Was yours at Lake Cumberland? If so my friend just bought that boat. They said the owners just bought a 46. I think that we might keep them like this for this year because it accelerates like crazy. Next year we will have some different motors and spin some big wheels. How fast is your rough rider with the 1075's. I am assuming that those are the motors you have.

Re: To all the 42 X guys

Yes, I think we are talking about the same boat. If it's the blue 42x with the name Insanity on the back from FW. That boat does accelerate like crazy. I recommend spinning some big wheels and getting some more top end out of that boat. It was a great riding machine. We did go with the 1075's in the rough rider. I was just running it last week. We had it at about 108 but we couldn't run it all the way up b/c of all the wood in the water. It's sister boat ran 125 about a month ago and we went with the same setup. So we will see where the ceiling is. Neil had our now old 42x at 117 on it's main voyage b/f we had to put the muflers in it. GREAT BOAT!!!

Re: To all the 42 X guys

Yep it is the same boat. He is pulling off the mufflers and puting on the borla mufflers to make it louder. These are great boats that is for sure. I dont think that we have to power to turn bigger props because we pulled boost out of the motors because without intercoolers 10 psi means funny fuel and that is expensive. Next season we sould be able to trun some bigger wheels.

Re: To all the 42 X guys

We had the Borla's in the boat. We had 35 calls to the local authorities "in one hour" and they threatened to haul our a$$es off to jail. We boat up in Northern Michigan so they are very conservative up there. We lost a bit of power when we pulled the Borla's out and put in the new mufflers. Good luck, maybe we will see you at the Smoke on the Water run this year. That boat got a lot of PR last year at the run. Let him know we also have copies of the magazine that it was in in December Boating 04.

Craig what harbor were you at in TCB? We keep our boat on Lake St. Clair and we will for sure be at smoke on the water. I have done some cool runs in northern michigan. This year in fact we are seeing if we can do a North Channel Run with some go fast boats. Where are you keeping your boat now?

People need to settle down on the noise up north. They think that they are really something sometimes.

Its happening everywhere. If you get checked out on our lake and are over 89 decibels they escort you off the lake to the launch and hand you a nice $250.00 ticket

Re: To all the 42 X guys

We boat out of Leland Harbor just north of TC. The authorities have been hell, that's why we had to tune down Insanity. This 1075's idle a lot quieter than the Sterlings did. Can't wait to meet ya at the Smoke on the Water Run. We are really involved with Bob and the event. If you have last years DVD tell your friend to watch it. That blue boat got a lot of film and news time. It was on the front page of the paper. Does the noise bother you up north? I wouldn't think it would having a big HP boat. I like the 1075's b/c the idle quietly out of the harbor. Can't wait to run with you guys this summer. It's always a blast!

Where are you getting fuel up there? I love that area and my family has a place there but the best fuel on the water I found was 89 with valve tech, I cant put that in my ZUL'S. Look forward to seeing and meeting you guys this summer. Steve

Re: To all the 42 X guys

That is a great question!??! When we were running the 1050 Sterlings, we brought up our own bulk truck of 110 octane. We would bring up at 2500 gallons each summer and that would last us most of the time. Last year since it was such a hassle we just pulled out each time and went to the pump. It's a pain in the A$$ but what are you going to do? I have talked to the harbor commission a million times about putting in 93. They may do that when the redo Leland Harbor. Does anyone know if you can get 92 or 93 on the water in Traverse?

Steve:

Do you have any information on the Boyne Thunder Run. I saw Masquerade up there last year running the following weekend, but we didn't do the run. Is it a good time? If you could e-mail me the information about it, that would be great!

Re: To all the 42 X guys

We dont have a problem with our boats at all for noise. I tell people to settel down if they flip out for no reason. I have found some places with premium but not many. I think that they have premium at mackinaw city but I know that that is far away. It is going to be awesome to meet you at Smoke on the Water. I have the dvd and I watch is all the time. I really enjoy the skater layin it down and running away from the chopper. VERY SWEET.

If they have prem. at the bridge let me know the name of the marinia, I love it up there. I did an 8 day trip from grand haven north a couple of years ago with my last Apache and the best I found the whole trip north of Grand Haven was 89 with valve tech so I cruised at 3500 the whole trip. look forward to seeing you guys Bad Boys. Steve,

We made the run to Mackinaw Island last summer...we couldn't find any high octane on the water...ended up pulling the boat to fill up...

Heard the Apache is looking great!

Cya on the water soon.

Hey Steve, East Jordan city marina on Lake Charlevoix has 93, I put together a octane list for Boyne Thunder you will get it in you driver packet, also the BP gas station in Boyne has 93 and 110 race gas if you are trailering up. I'm looking forward to seeing your new boat at Boyne, you should send us some photos to put on our web site. JB

Re: To all the 42 X guys

It's looking like no dice for the Boyne run, but I am still working on trying to get my crew in-line for the run. If not, our boats home is in Leland that piece they call a marina. We are always down to go out and run or meet up with people. Till next time
