Re: Ground Wire
if you're running a new amp, run a separate ground straight back to the battery, and don't use cheap wire

Re: Ground Wire
 i am running an amp and it states not to use over 30" of wire for ground because of engine noise. can i run one to the battery without worry? what size wire? thanks grimmy :drink: :drink: :drink:

Re: Ground Wire
you can run new wire back to the battery just go up in the size. If you plan to add anything else, I would recomend running at least a 4 gauge wire to the battery set up a ground dstribution block with 4 8 gauge outputs on it and dedicate to the stereo items and. Also do the same for the constant power. Usually 4 gauge will get you by with some decent draw on the amps without getting warm to the touch if you are gonna pull a large amount of amp power (4000&up) then run a Aut gauge(sp). Also dont skimp on the as well as connectors to have it all last.

Re: Ground Wire
Length matters- the more current you'll draw...the bigger gauge wire you need:
http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/gra...ablelength.gif Ignore the "not to use over 30" of wire for ground because of engine noise" statement. That applies in cars, where the metal chasis is a way better conductor than any cable you could install. In a boat, you need to run your own grounds to the battery. |
