The Gun IS the chit it's just that the straight bottoms don't like going slow without tabs. They are built to run fast.

The Stepped boats came out in 2000. They don't porpose at all.

Mike, you have to remember the straight bottom Guns are a product of the 80's hull design. Arguably all V-bottom large/heavy 24 degree straight bottom boats built in the 80's porpoise. It's the nature of the beast. Run it in glass you'll see it. Run it in the type of water they are meant to be run in and you wont.

Oh, and in my opinion the Top Gun is the most well respected offshore racing style boat ever built and is an icon in the industry. Just my .02 though.

I have to agree with L S JR. on the ride of " the pink flamingo". She smooths out about 60 MPH and has the most tremendously level ride attitude at 4200 RPM. Even in true West Coast 2-4 foot cross swell. She will dance from crest to crest without hull flex or groan. And full 5100 RPM in the light ruffle is extremely solid.

It took a lot of time and effort to get The Pink Flamingo to where it is
today, but was worth it all to be able to use it for the two years we had it.
I know it went to a good home and you will always keep it as nice as it is.
We tried to sell it for a while......but no one would step up to the plate.
Little did they know just how fine a boat it is....How well, how fast it
runs, & handles. I spent a small fortune on it but it was worth every penny !
Take good care of her & she will never let you down. It was a LUCKY STRIKE for me, & you both to have her........Enjoy.

Man just lost a LONG response.....

Here is what I said in a nut shell;

It is clearer now. As long as there is at least a small chop to ventillate the hull the boat won't popoise. The rule here is almost always chop at least. I will be using this boat a delivery vehicle for frozen goods to take to small resorts with docks so it will have to run at a good clip in not so good conditions.

Cigarette has the reputation of being THE rough water boat that can also pass the WAF. I will be hauling one of those and three kids around too. So I hope that I have not offended anyone here I really have the TG at the top of my list. But now have better understanding of the porpoise issue.

I had a much more eloquent response that got zapped. I will be starting a thread on the General Tech section to ask people about who they think has the best engineered boat. HOPEFULLY it will be objective.

The porpoise can be controlled by using the trim tabs, the lower you drop them the less the boat does that. The reason people don"t like to use tab is because it scrubs off speed. My thoughts are you can't go wrong with a Cigarette !
