38 GUN vs 42 TIGER?
Ok, now don't unload on me if this has been up somewhere, I looked and couldn't find it. :D Looking into the difference between the two for the Cost v Luxury/performance. :evilb: Running on the West Coast wife wants the Fullcabin. There seems to be alot of really nice 42's and some expensive 38's? What's the better buy? Am I missing something? 38=Faster? 42=more room? Thanks :drink: Let the thrashing begin :evilb:

Biggus rode in our Tiger and said it felt 10' longer than his Top Gun.
As for your wife wanting a bigger cabin??? If you could float the Hearst Castle they would find a way to biatch for more room... Put your foot down and tell her you'll go to more restaurants and she won't have to cook or clean... If you boat out west you will appreciate the extra length... This is what happens when it gets rough! |
Re: 38 GUN vs 42 TIGER?
Thats right. GL invited me along for a trip to Key Largo a couple years back and his 42 sure seemed quite a bit larger than my Top Gun.
Great ride GL! One of the best!!!!! Kurt |

The best running 42' in my opinion are the none stepped cover girl 1/2 cabin Tigers. 500HP's and bravo will put you in the mid 70's all day. Much better ride in the rough stuff too.
A non step 38 1998-early2000 are lighter than the earlier T/G's and run well with 500HP's mid 70's with a full cabin. Still handle well in the rough stuff. The T/S boats are a little more unstable due to the steps being so big and forward on the CG. Not as turn and rough water friendly. Just my $.02 |

Re: 38 GUN vs 42 TIGER?
The Tiger was designed for 500HP's and Bravos and a half cabin.
The CG really changes with fuls cabins and #6's and blower motors. Not to say that they aren't good boats but theyare outside the scope of the original design. Things may have changed since they T/S was introduced. I also agree that the T/G is as good a rough water boat as the Tiger, but the extra length does make a differnence. |
Re: 38 GUN vs 42 TIGER?
Now we're gettin somewhere :evilb: West Coast Big Water and Bigger Boats Seems to be the ticket :evilb: 42's with 500's may not get there first, but It sounds like We'll be DRY and in ONE piece :evilb: Thanks for the all the input :D :drink:
