TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
I want to remove the seat back on the rear seat. I removed the hinged seat bottom (no brainer there) but I can't see how to remove the seat back. I climbed into the engine bay to look for fasteners and saw nothing.
So how do I remove it? Time for more winter upgrades ya know. |
Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
Bill,
There should be either 5 or 6 bolts holding them in that can be accessed through the engine compartment.Thats after you take off the side panels.( check your pm) |
Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
I was wondering the same thing. Which side panels are you referring to?

Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
The complete side panels to the cockpit. They are attached with the christmas tree style clips.

Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
On my 2000 T/S, the rear seat (base & back) was all one piece. There were bolts that bolted it to the floor, which could be found under rear seat. There were also a few that bolted it to the bulkhead that could be found in the bilge. pm203 is correct, you must take off the side combing panels to lift the rear seat out.

Here are a couple of my 93. I hope that they help. Just make sure that you have a couple of friends around when you take it out as it is very heavy. Also, if I remember correctly, the rear seat has a slight taper to it and the only way it will move is up and not forward.

Roger, I can't believe you didn't clean those up before you took a picture of them. ;)

The whole back area one piece???
I am not sure on that. Here is 2 pics that show the seat back. The seat back appears to be a seperate piece. Roger1's pics are different from what I have. His is one peice and looks it. Now the sides (where the steps are) and the seat base are definately on unit. The boat is an '02 (made in the summer of '01) Any more thoughts? If it IS one piece - I am not going to mess with it. The vinyl is in great shape - just can't get it "bright white" looking. Plus I wanted to re-do the Cig oval. Has some purple in it that has slightly faded - plus I don't care for purple. |
Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
the steps and the base and the back are assembled as a unit, you can take the back off of that unit, but you have to take it out first. When i redid my rear seat on my donzi it was that way. It was 3 seperate pieces that were upolstered, then the were attached to the base which was upohlstered as well.

Don`t forget. If you are going to pull the rear seat, you will have to remove the master switch panel as well.

I just talked to the guy that I have done a ton of Cig interiors for from OK, and altho the hasn't had an '02 apart we both kinda agree they are probably the same as the older ones. First the bolsters will have to come out to allow removal of the side panels. Two we're sure the back seat is all one piece altho it may not look like it. And it should have some bolts into the floor under the seat cushion on the rear side of the front section on either side of the electrical panel. And altho you will have to undo the electrical panel it will slide thru the hole without undoing all the wiring. Third it should have some bolts under the hatch into the rear of the seat, but may not be in plain site. Like near or hidden by trim pumps or something. So look close. But like was mentioned it is a huge heavy piece so have plenty of help. Good luck. John Sunrise Upholstery |

John Sunrise Upholstery Here is a picture taken from the engine compartment looking forward to the bulkhead behind the rear seat. I have circled the bolt heads in red so you will know where to look for the ones that need to be removed. John is right about being able to fit the electrical panel back through the hole that it`s mounted in without disconnecting any wires or cables. I removed mine because it needs to be redone. Hope this helps Roger |
Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
Ok I think I have a grasp on it now.
Got those 3 bolts in engine box, floor brackets/screws for front of seat. Are there any bolts to be removed from the sides? Side panels are coming off for re-do too. John, how do I measure those 4 side panels so I can get enough matching vinyl from you? Those are too big and fragile to ship. |
Re: TG rear seat back removal - HOW??????
Bill,
I should be able to get some measurements off of a Gun here to send you enought vinyl to do the side panels, so no problem. Good luck. John. |
