fyi and comment ... fuel consumption
just finished first 300 miles on 38'top gun 2 x 502 mag mpi.
1/2 of that at WOT the rest ast 50ish mph 4200 rpm... plus the usual docking etc... milage consisted of multiple round trips to local island for lunch... about 33 miles total... plus a couple extended runs in early trials after assembly. max speeds for 15 miles at a crack is 65 @ 5000 rpm total fuel consumption for 300 miles was 223 gallons... and here is the part i love ( god i love efi...) port engine 111 gallons, starbord 112.... less than 1 % deviation.... i have no idea whether these are good numbers or not but this mpi system is the cats ass in this application. |
Re: fyi and comment ... fuel consumption
i have 500 efi's and the port uses more fuel for some reason

Re: fyi and comment ... fuel consumption
maybe cuz you start your boat w/ keys from left to right.

I was told at one point that there was a difference between EFI (Electronic Fuel Injection) and MPI (Mulpi Port Injection) but someone with more information might be able to clear this up. |
Re: fyi and comment ... fuel consumption
efi means electronic fuel injection.... that covers all injection types that use an electronic sensor array fed into a " computer ( ecu) that then figures and delivers the fuel to then engine. the mpi stands for multi point injection... which means that each cylinder has its own injector vs a TBI which is throttle body injection which has one or two BIG injectors that just dump fuel into the manifold in place of a carb. there are lots of types and injector locations but for all intents and purposes the ones where the injector shoots directly on the back of the intake valve are the better of the group.
my motors were 100 hour take outs when i got them... i pulled the plugs to have a look and they looked essentially brand new. thats what having the fuel and ignition curve right does for you... turn the switches and hit the buttons and purrrrrrrr... plug and play performance for the masses.... |
Re: fyi and comment ... fuel consumption
...and people ask me why I got rid of the quad rotor Whipple 1200's!! :D
Last trip out for me....56 miles traveled-103 gallons used at $4.75/ gallon (110 leaded mixed with 93 unleaded). $489.25 for an hours worth of boating. |
Re: fyi and comment ... fuel consumption
 My 600's w/ dual carbs were almost as bad & it only required 93oct. Exactly why it is gone. :D
What will the new power run on? Looks good btw. JM |
