How do you work the toilet?

OK... I'm a newbee... :p

In the head are two buttons. The top one flushes the toilet (I think) and the bottom one works the macerator pump.

The "Y" valve on the macerator pump appears to be set to "pump" water into the holding tank. The input valve is open and the output valve is closed (I think).

Assuming that the holding tank is either empty or has a small amount of "winterizing" fluid... What do I do?

Do I need to pump lake water into holding tank? If so, how much?

Should I see water in the toilet when I "flush" it?

Help out a fellow Cigarette owner, please!

Re: Do do you work the toilet?

The top button pumps water into the toilet from the lake. The bottom button flushes the toilet into either the holding tanks or overboard, depending how the Y-valve is set.

**disclaimer**
I would never, nor have I ever flushed any boat toilet into anything other the holding tank.******

:D :D

PS- Unless the holding tank has been replaced in that boat, I'd be willing to bet $50 that the tank is rotted out and anything that you flush will end up in the bilge. They all do it. If that is the case, your in luck!!!! Do a search on "Bullet Head ReDo"

Re: How do you work the toilet?

Craig is 100% correct on the tank. If you happen to replace the tank it's very simple to do. To prolong the life of the new tank you need to mount them on rubber grommets -vs- the rigid mount from the factory. It will help absorb the shock and it won't rest directly to the mounting pad. Keep in mind the tank does not have a large capacity.

I never used mine & I sent the directions with the boat when I sold it..But..
I remember something about pushing both buttons together ??

bet thats a crappy job...some one had to say it...So that means the claymates can't be loading up on burritos and stuff and filling the tank.:D

Re: How do you work the toilet?

Thanks again. It works, but...

Until I can inspect the holding tank, I wil set the "Y" valve to discharge into the lake and only allow people to perform #1. No #2! :D

I have the same problem - I can't get it to flush fresh water, so I must have either and empty tank (is it the main fresh water tank) or is there a smaller one and if so how do I fill it or check it to see if its holding?

Re: How do you work the toilet?

Mine had only 1 tank(holding). Draws water direct from the lake to fill & flush. Tank is like 4 gallons and the flush seems like almost 2 gallons.

It don't hold much. My new one has a porta potty , its much easier.

I never want to go through replacing a tank again

But when you do its RDS for the tank and Jabsco parts to rebuild the pump.

Re: How do you work the toilet?

good luck... i built new tank for mine.. then next year i figured out the tank was to small. (4 gals). took out heavy porcelan head and both pumps glassed in a pad and put a portapotti in its place...

-Take pants and underwear off.
-Squat by bending at the knees, preferably over the big hole on top of the said toilet.
-Think of gas prices.

That should put you on the right track...

I could trouble you with other steps like wiping and getting your pants back on but I did not want to confuse you with other complicated steps.

I hope it works out for you. Glad to help a fellow Cigarette owner :D

Not to alarm you but I think you need to have any form of overboard discharge disabled. There are some very strict enviromental rules on the subject to include capping or and/or disabling any form of overboard discharge.
Think the USCG can write a big ticket for this.

Re: How do you work the toilet?

Federal law says that untreated sewage (even if it's been dosed with a deodorant product) can NOT be discharged in inland or coastal waters. This means the sewage from a portable toilet or a Type III holding tank can not be discharged unless you are in the ocean more than 3 miles offshore.

Federal law also states that if you have a holding tank with a "Y" valve allowing direct overboard discharge of untreated waste, it must be secured in the closed position while operating in all inland and coastal waters. Using a non-releasable wire tie, padlock, or removing the valve handle is considered adequate securing of the device. Click here to get more details and an illustration of a Y-Valve. (This goes to a new panel with the “Why a “Y” Valve?” page from CVA template notebook.)

Operating in a federally designated “No Discharge Area” further restricts what sewage you can discharge overboard. In these areas, there is no treated sewage discharge allowed from boats. That means if you have a Type I or II MSD, you are not allowed to discharge it while in those waters. There is a trend towards more local waters being designated as No Discharge Areas, so if you rely on using your Type I or II MSD, check a cruising guide before venturing into new waters.

Good post!!! I just have one question. Is it illegal to take a leak off of the back of a boat...or get in the water and piss? I really don't see any difference in those two scenarios or pissing in the toilet and flushing it (without chemicals) into the water. Either way....it's just pee!!! :D
