why is this boat still for sale...
i've been looking at this one for quite a while now... i wonder why it is still for sale? does anyone know anything about it? is it the TRS drives that are holding it back?

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
Sean, for one... the pictures suck. Not even pics of the cockpit and helm.
And i guess the TRS's put some people off, but you personally know it really shouldn't. Without seeing the actual condition, since the pics dont show it, I'd rather be in your Cafe. |
Re: why is this boat still for sale...
I was looking for a Top Gun about 18 months ago and this was one I considered. I really wanted the Lucky Strike 1991 Top Gun and used it as a comparison for others.
My impression was this boat was overpriced. No swim platform, old dash panel. prefered the flat railing vs tubular. Actually liked the somewhat plain paint job. Couldn't sell my boat. Another one I wonder about is the white and Blue gun that has been for sale at Dollar marine for a long time. It has 3a drives, no platform, cover girl cabin and 650 per side I think. ed |

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
as a casual observer the first things I noticed are age, under-powered, TRS and price..

Re: why is this boat still for sale...

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
I think $90k for a 16 year old boat with TRS and no hydraulic steering is part of the problem. For a few more bucks, you can get into a really sweet ride. Not to mention the fact the premium fuel is already $3.20 and it's only April and insurance, if available, is outrageous as well. The oil companies and the insurance companies are pretty much taking the fun out of boating.

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
Bottom line... It's overpriced. You can get a better boat for less money. I feel like I did.
Lower the price and it will sell. Just my two-cents... |
Re: why is this boat still for sale...
you are right. $45,000 for those old cig's is the right money try to get a bank to lone money on one then talk that is all their are worth

I often ask myself "why is my boat still with me? Is the problem the pink stripes or the TRS drives that is the deal killer?"
1. I have thought about removing the unique color scheme, but the heritage of the "flamingo" should live on. 2. Having full hydraulic steering would enhance stability, but when are you really blasting through swell at WOT? 3. The TRS drives are outdated, but setup correctly, they will give better service on these big, heavy boats. The transmission handles the load/unload off ocean swells. I was disappointed to find out that my drives tore through gears at 145 hrs. I was elated to find a guy to rebuild them and learned that they were assembled "too loose" at the last rebuild. The new owner will have fresh rebuilds on both drives. This boat has been well maintained and is great value. I am not going to just give it away(2 people have offered 60K). 3 people have recently purchased Top Guns that have inquired about mine. They didn't even come out to see her. I have a deal pending East after the sale of this ole gal, someone needs to step up and take the legacy keys... Hugh 714 726-8224 |
Re: why is this boat still for sale...
PW, west coast boats are a tougher sell.
But then again, it took LS a long time to sell her too. I think your boat is a great buy. I think its the best older hull there is, since it is so light. And yes, let the pink flamingo live. |

Storm
The irony is that 1 guy that lives merely 35 miles away wouldn't come look with repeated invitations, and still purchased from Florida. Another from LA has looked and wants to check his options (in Miami now). And another that is as close won't call back. 3 interested partys from West Coast and no sale. To top it off, my next one is in Florida also. I am willing to deal if someone presents the cash. Hugh |
Re: why is this boat still for sale...
Wow, PW, that is odd.
When I got my boat, I was looking at one in cali. The one in cali was a 28 and substantially more $, but in the end, i ended up putting alot into my 24, pretty much what i would have had in the 28. And the 28 would have been an easier sell and I probably wouldn't have lost much $. Learn and live. |
Re: why is this boat still for sale...
BTW PH, your boat w/ konrads and 650-700 per side would be a f'n screamer!!! Pink stripe and all.

Offshore boats are hard to sell, part of the reason is because by the time we make them the way we want, we spend so much $ that we are in them so deep we can't get out without taking a bath. I bought a 2000 Gun & I have spent well over $45k on it. Now if I wanted to sell it who would give me what I have in it ? It's not what you buy it for it's how much you have to spend once you get it. Sometimes you can trade out of it if your lucky & find a deal that will work for you.
By the way when I bought my last two Top Guns I never dreamed that I would have to spend what I did on both of them. You all know that a boat is a hole in the water that you just keep putting money into. LS |

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
that boat at doller is a bad mofo for the coin and you wont ever hurt the drives or trannines at that power level no matter how brutal you are on them.
but when are you really blasting through swell at WOT? |

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
From what I was told the TG Tank listed was a repo, and was not an origanal speedmaster boat, the person that told this to me had a boat in the same marina when it was on the east caost.I was also told the motors where a problem also, so I pushed my customer way away from this TG.

Re: why is this boat still for sale...
I've actually heard some rumors of this too but nothing confirmed. It sure is a sweet looking package.

The one at Dollar looks a bit tattered if you zoom in the pics.
