24' Cigarette "Lap Dancer" - Good, bad or ugly?
Wondering if anyone can shed any light on the 24' Cigarette (or possibly Banana) named "Lap Dancer" located on Long Island?
Supposedly powered by a 468 with a TRS. From what I have been told it was an A-boat, numbered A-46 on the APBA circuit about 10 years ago. Looks kinda ratty in the photos I've seen, and they weren't detailed at all. Looking for someone who has personal knowledge, photos, etc. Thanks, Harry |

superboat

Re: 24' Cigarette "Lap Dancer" - Good, bad or ugly?
Fast Fun: This is not a Superboat. It's a lime green and yellow 24' Cigarette. There is also a 24' Superboat named "Lil Lap" that was on eBay recently. I spoke to the owner of that boat, and in my opinion he wants too much $$.

Sean: I believe that the others are referring to the Red 24' Superboat "Lil Lap" shown below. I'm referring to the Lime Green 24' Cigarette "Lap Dancer," also shown below. I believe they are both or were at one time owned by Aldo from Aldo's Auto & Marine in Lindenhurst.

thanks harry, looks like the 24' model with the windshield...i'v never seen it before...its for sale? can you share the asking price? are you pursuing it?
also looks like a shadow or chris cat behind it... |
Re: 24' Cigarette "Lap Dancer" - Good, bad or ugly?
Sean:
I wouldn't say pursuing, but definitely interested. I think that's a 30' Superboat Cat in the background. Looking to sell my 20' Cigarette and put the big power into something 24'-26' until my 35' Mistress is done. Harry |

The Lap Dancer is back for sale again. http://www.aquamarinaworldwide.com/i...-480-5218.html
Any info this time around? |
I have a true 72 Cigarette 24 that I am considering selling and it is different from the boat that is advertised. Dash, windshield cowling, etc is not the same. Also, the VIN posted is not a Cigarette VIN.

Looks like a 24' Cig with a modified windshield in the middle. HIN doesn't make sense.
Not a banana... |

Good, Bad, or Ugly....all of the above...and it has a new home :-)
|
Made it home to the mountains of Western North Carolina with the 24 Cig...spent all day Saturday thru this morning with it on one the local lakes checking everything out... and poking and proding it in places that haven't see light in ages.
What an incredibly built boat and seems to be 100% solid with no rot, amazing! http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-tr...-08-33_71m.jpg http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-CP...26-24_678m.jpg |
Congrats!
I just read your posts in the banana thread. Wish you would have posted that you were coming up this way, I would have given you some advice. Post some pics of the original scheme when u find some. |

BTW, in retrospect I am glad I didn't talk with you about the "Banana"...I may not have driven up there and ended up with the 24 CIG. It is funny, you were already on my list of people I wanted to chat with, if you have time. Sending you my contact info via PM. Thanks, Dave |
Hey Dave,
Boat looks GREAT! Sent you and email, your PM's are full. Call me when you have a chance. |

Will definitely call you in the next couple of days. OH, in the interim before I save up for a full stripping of the exterior to a new color scheme... I am thinking of this (see pic). Lucking the "Lap Dancer" part is decals and will come off easily...I also have a close friend who does signs, wraps etc.... Opinions on this quick cheap temporary change would be appreciated. From this ... http://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-tr...-08-33_71m.jpg To this.... http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-sa...s800/Bobby.jpg |
If you did the cig lettering in a diff font poss yes.. It is to modern looking for the paint scheme imo.. Nice looking old boat for sure,, but then again, everybody knows what it is...

I think the new style Cig lettering gives it a nice update. I would also enlarge the cig logo on the back to the newer stretched logo. Cooool boat and good luck!
|
Send it to LipShip!
|
With these old vintage boats just remember.... less is more.
Keep the design simple and timeless. For a temporary change, I'd pull the letters and leave it alone. |

On a serious note, I would love to have a LipShip boat...but honestly too fancy for me, and certainly for my intended usage. Plus, what I am doing would probably be too simple for the artists at LipShip anyway. FWIW, I am making a list of parts to order from them.

RE: The "temporary change".....as of 10pm last night, decal removal, easy..."adhesive" removal, not so easy, LOL http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/--k...-04-39_343.jpg Special thanks to my wife for her patience in doing stuff like that. |

There seems to be a LOT of confusion about this particular "Lap Dancer 24"....here is part of what it confuses some people. NPBA Hall of Fame nominee Aldo Aleszczuck's D Class Race boat..."Lap Dancer" http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/a...lap-dancer.jpg I have heard the story of how the "CIG 24 Lap Dancer" came to be from someone who supposedly had hands on with it's "creation"...but waiting to hear from the man himself. Either way, I am just tickled poopless to have a solid CIG 24...the rest of the History, no matter what it is, is just icing in the cake. |
Just had an interesting phone convo with Mr. Aleszczuck....very interesting.
Will post back in a few days when I get the history in writing and spend more time on the phone with him this weekend away from work. Funny, he told me how he came across it and what he paid for it...want to get exact details, but it is very funny! OH, I was wrong about the Winning History of the 24...very wrong :-) FYI, there were 3 "Lap Dancers"...the CIG 35 shown above (the first Lap Dancer) then came the CIG 24 Lap Dancer, and later a Superboat 21 Lap Dancer. All the same color scheme. |
There was only 2 cigarettes with that paint scheme one that raced A class and one that raced D class the 24 superboat was just a bay bombing boat named lil lap as a joke. The 24 cigarette was and still is a nice boat (still looks good for over 20 year old paint).boat was put together late 80's early 90's and raced a handful of races then sat for like 10 years used a couple of times then sat for like 5 more years there's not a lot of hours on the boat probaly in the water 20 times since 1990.You got a good deal on the boat I just bought the red banana boat with the yamaha (re-rigging with twin merc 250's in between typing)from Paul he is a real nice guy to deal with.

Thanks for the corection on Lil Lap, that is how I recall it also. Yeah, if the paint is over 20 years old ...it looks fantastic for that age..WOW. Nice to hear further confirmation about the low hours, I was told the same. Congrats on the red Banana! It is a sharp looking boat..honestly I only glanced at...but Paul went on and on about how strong it was and how solid the condition was...Had it had some Mercs on it then..and the CIG wasn't luring me in....you may have missed out on it, I do like red!!...LOL Post some pics in the Banana section of it when you can. Would like to see more of it...BTW..Wanna sell the seats..IIRC it had Drop Bolsters in white w/red???? I am sure you probably don't but remember me in case you ever do! All the best, Dave |

get some rapid remover, smells like oranges, 100% natural wont hurt paint or gel, just rub it on and let it sit for a couple minutes and wipe or scrap off with a white plastic squeegeee.
|
I am actually interested in selling the bolsters funny you should ask I will email you my number,I can tell you some more about your cigarette I been in it a couple of times also helped putting the boat together it we had to wrap the aluminum racing dash because it used to blind you with the sun the boat was put together right to last back then
|
Thanks John, look forward to talking with you!
