TG with HP500's & E-Tops

Anyone running a late 90's TG with a stock set-up, HP500's , with CMI E-tops...

What did you do for tailpipes? CMI is requiring a full measurment. I plan on doing this but rumor has it that it's a stock Bravo set up and stock bravo tailpipes will work?

Q?: wouldn't/shouldn't CMI have much of this on record? If it works on one set up, wouldn't/shouldn't it work on another as long as the set up is stock?

I replaced my headers last year. Cig uses std bravo set up and it is an "off the shelf" item. You should be able to buy std Bravo tail pipes and they should work fine.

Thanks Fred. It's not necessarily the measuring that I'm so worried about... it's about the extra time CMI is going to need to make customer tails for me. PLUS, I have one set of std. that might fit which after I got tagged with the shop bill yesterday on the motors, I need all the help i can get.

When you place an order for your tails, you have to sign off that you took measurements and they're accurate. Order stock tails and they won't fit, you just bought yourself some expensive tubing to lay around the shop.

The measuremets aren't that tough or time consuming. Best to do it right the first time.

If you need help, call or drag the boat to us. We've had customers from as far away as Maryland and Michigan who've prefered to have us do their measuring. But in my opinion, you can do as goog a job in your own driveway.

Good Luck!

OK, maybe I'm a complete idiot but this measuring for tailpipes is not an easy thing to accomplish. Even with the motors out of the boat. Who's engineered a way to make this easier? The only thing I've heard is someone using PVC to fab their own tailpipes??

There has to be an easier way.

I've come up with 13 7/8 from crankshaft over to exhaust hole, & 35 1/4 from crankshaft to crankshaft. Anyone know if this would be considered standard bravo set up? I'm going to measure again with a couple more hands but there doesn't seem to be an easy way.

Q?: If I purchase standard (off the shelf) bravo tailpipes from CMI & they don't fit... why would CMI not take them back?

Fred... Did my tails ship? I really need to know? Left a few messages for you and an email. I'm running out of time to find these elsewhere if need be. Please advise. Thanks!

Both to the NC address. ;)

Jim, saw your boat. I hope you didn't order std bravo set up. You exhaust outlets "look" to be lower in the transom than std set up. You had that odd Merc exhuast and it looks like the holes in the transom are different.

I hope I am wrong, but. . . . . . . ???

BTW: Brad did a nice job on waxing. Tell him after he is done with yours, he can do mine. :D :drink:

Rich, Doug and I all measured, 2X's and if everything's right, we were within the 1/4'' varience for stock. Man I hope you're wrong....

Rebuilt the HP500's to around 560HP. Trying to keep it reliable. All new components, from heads, to cams, to intake. I'll look to replace the stock HP carbs sometime soon. Both were rebuilt, but one just seems to have a little attitude every now & then.
