Converting TRS Cafe to Bravo - Hatch Question

Well, the project is underway...TRS stuff out of the boat, but now I need to figure out how to reconfigure the hatch lift...the two hydraulic rams that were attached to the transom plates mus now go away...

does anyone know where I can get the hatch mechanism that is used on bravo boats? I noticed it is a pretty custom piece...

my other option is probably an electric unit...has anyone converted or used one of these in a cafe?

pics would be helpful :)

Sean didn't want to go that route(konrad). Resale...

Sean, call fred at trick, he should have some lifts that are installed in the corners.

What's wrong with resale on Konrads

Re: Converting TRS Cafe to Bravo - Hatch Question

Donz, there's nothing wrong with knorads...until you try and sell the boat to some shmoe off the street who has never heard of them and is worried about getting them serviced...not to mention finding qualified service technicians in my area should something go wrong.

my other concern is that i am putting new 496 HOs in the boat and what happens if one of them blows up under warranty and merc comes back to me and blames the drive? what do i do then? eat the cost of a new motor? i dont think so.

and yes... i know the boat is going to be slow...

we all know about konrad on OSO and we all know that they can handle big power, etc... that's not the issue...

i'm going with bravos for the same reason i'm about to dump 70k into a boat that is worth 40K...because I'm stubborn and set in my ways...

LOL

Sean, when you are done w/ your cafe... please don't sell it to "some schmoe off the street." :D
Its too nice for someone not to baby it. You've made it about the nicest cafe there is.

What's your definition of slow?? Gary Sanchez put 496's in his Cafe w/bravos and it ran right up to 70. That's pretty good for a wave crusher with turn key power.

I'm with you tank. 70 works for me, as does a heavy turn-key boat...but in today's performance boat market, that is slow... :) after the warrantees run out, i'll either whipple it, raylar it, or buy something else.

thanks for the complimet rob, she'll be just the way i want her in about a month...

Sean

I'm stubborn like you, I just put about $55K into my 93 Cafe. I put in a set of Merc HP500's and new transom assemblies rebuilt drives new helm and every cable and wire bolt and screw. I have a lot of people ask me why didn't I buy a mid 90's top gun instead. I actualy started looking around and found I would have to eventualy spend that money on whatever I bought anyway, and at least I know my hull and what I have. The boat runs 76mph now and I am going to try a labbed 26p prop and see if I can get a little more, but I am happy with. I think Cafe's have great lines and love big water, but definately not the fastest. Good luck and enjoy! :drink:

You hit the nail on the head. I started looking at top guns too and came to the exact conclusion. I know every square inch of my boat and now it is just about where i want it to be...and with new power, i'll have a turn key reliable boat...

76mph is respectable with that HP. any pics of your ride?

I paid 68000 for my 89 cafe and i am about to put another 50000 in the boat. I am getting painted and putting in new gauges and interior. I am going with that new carbon fiber vinyl, i think it looks pretty cool. I love the way my boat rides and handles. My friends thought i was crazy buying such an old boat. But they all want one now...lol
