Anyone know this boat?
A friend of mine bought the old 1991 42 Cigarette "Chop Chop". It is one of the flat decks called Revolution 188 I believe. The boat is set up for staggered engines and number 6 drives. It is a center steer but has a weird cabin, maybe put in after.
Anyone know the history? Thanks, Carl |
Re: Anyone know this boat?
Photos......??????

Re: Anyone know this boat?
Where did he purchase it from?
|
Re: Anyone know this boat?
I don't have photos yet. I believe he purchsed it at an auction about two years ago. The boat was stripped of everything, motors, drives and on and on.
Boat is all white, has splash graphics green purple and blue. The Cig logo is green oval, blue letters and pink number 1. It has a blue swim platform. The front has a flag and number box but no number. |
Re: Anyone know this boat?
I believe there were only two of the "Evolutions" (flat deck Revolution) built. The all white one that was for sale in Florida listed through Jeff Cheng (board god #1) and the blue/purple funky painted one that was at Cumberland for a while. I think that is the boat you are refering too. It was raced. Craig B knows the history of the boat as well as the guys at Lake Cumberland Marine. It was for sale at Cumberland for a couple of years fully rigged, ran over 100 but just wouldn't sell (probably because Cumberlands prices are out of control! ) I think it did finally sell, then I saw it pop back up a year ago or so. Maybe that's when your friend got it.
Those were the first "Tigers" so to speak. They were not chop shoped, they were specific built/race built from the factory. Cool boat that looks a lot like a 41 Apache. |
Re: Anyone know this boat?
Is it this one? I just got it off of Cumberlands web site. They are notorious for keeping boats that are gone up on their website.

Re: Anyone know this boat?
Tank,
Thanks a bunch. I talked to Phil and he didn't know it and then called Craig. There were four built. One was Ohio Steel, maybe yellow, another is at Lake Cumberland and used to be called "Too Fast For You", one is white with grey interior that is for sale now (sunk in Ft. Lauderdale) I think at a salvage site. It used to hang on a lift in Harbor Beach in Ft. Lauderdale. The one that my buddy has was Craig's boat. It was called "Cigarette Hawk". He said it was light layup and was originally done with fives on boxes. My buddy is going to try and put his Lambo motors in the boat. Thanks again, Carl |

Must've been recently. That's too bad. It was a NICE ride! Easily the nicest of the 4 built. |

Re: Anyone know this boat?
Tank,
Yes I think the white one sunk recently. I saw it advertised a few months with the picture of it still on the lift in Harbor Beach. I heard it was now on a salvage site but I did not see it. My friend does not have a huge checkbook but does most of the work himself. This boat is one of a few with the room needed in the engine compartment to full stagger the Lambo V-12 motors. He ran a pair in his old boat for years so he knows them fairly well. It is a huge project as the boat is totally stripped. J-Bonz Not that one but close. It is white with green purple and and blue. The cig logo is green outline, blue background and purple number 1. |

Re: Anyone know this boat?
I thought the other one was all grey. Jeff knew the owner of that one.
It was listed here on OSO, and the pics were of it on a lift. Is that the one that is being claimed as sunk? |
Re: Anyone know this boat?
I think that boat was white with gray interior. Maybe kind of looked gray. That is the one I was told had sunk. It was on OSO.
He ran those Lambo motors for about eight or nine years. He just loves the way they sound and perform. You know how a dream goes. |
Re: Anyone know this boat?
Yeah, I noticed that all white 42 hasn't been on the lift for awhile . The guy use to take the props off.

Good idea to take your props off even if the boat is on the lift. You should see my prop shafts from the guy that owned the boat before me. He kept it on a lift in Ft. Lauderdale and never took the props off. Salt water tends to find all those little nooks and crannies. |

LS jr.
Anyone with number 3, 4, 5, or 6's must take the props off after each saltwater run. They will rust unbelievably fast. I remove mine each time, clean thouroughly, then grease the crap out of them. The first time you don't you won't be happy. The voice of experience speaking here. Different story on Bravo butt (as M. M. would say) or the TRS. My old Fountain was fine once or twice a year, it had TRS. Same with my old 28 with a Bravo. Different metals would be my guess. When you see the costs of the big prop shafts you would elect to do the same. Real pain in the nuts though. Carl |

Karl,
the one that sunk is indead in ft lauderdale, just near tommy shop off 595 and SR 84....The guy that has it I used to do some salvage work with....boats in bad shape, did sink and was put into storage wet (outside storage). Has damage on star side as well. On top of it all, I actually tried to buy it from him a few years back... Todd is salvage owner, he thinks it's worth millions !!...wanted over 150K at that time. 6's are missing, engines were there, but wet....boat was totally underwater....sad Dave |

Craig just went through both of my #6's this past November. He was very fair with the pricing and a pleasure to deal with. Nice guy!!! I try to keep my shafts well lubricated!!!!:D:evilb: There is another one that I think that you all have missed in your discussion. It's in the OSO classifieds and is named "The Hard Way". I saw it running around Plymouth MA 3-4 years ago. I thought it went to Lake Cumberland Marine shortly after.
|
The boat is a 42 Revolution hull with and extended Top Gun deck. The boat ran well.
