Cig Battery ???

Need to double check I've lost my mind here. When both switches are turned to #1 the starboard engine draws from the front starboard battery. The port engine draws from rear battery on starboard side. The singe battery on the port side is the "#2" battery. Correct ?

Also, what group size and specs recomended ?

Stan, this is prob. no help to you but my Bullet came with 2 31 class batteries. I think 900 amps each. Deep Cycle.

My old Bullet (and the current TG) both have two batteries. If you read the panel where the batt. switches are located, it will tell you that to run each engine off of its own battery...you put each switch on "1". Putting one switch on 1 and the other on 2 runs both engines off of one battery. It also says that if you run both switches on "both" it will hurt the alternators.

Switch on 1 and 1. But curious to know which battery powers each engine. You have 3 batts ?

I have 2 batt.

No idea on which goes to each engine, but it wouldn't be too hard to find out with a voltmeter and one engine running! ;)

REALLY!? Sh!t, I always run them on both so they both get a good charge. when I'm chillin' for a few hours listening to tunes, I always turn one switch to off and the other to 1.

so you're saying you can run them both in the "1" position and each motor will charge a seperate battery? Interesting......

Let me know when you figure it out, my gun has the same 3 battery set up.

I run them on 1 and 1 and they correspond to the port and startboard engines but I am not sure which battery is which and I have no idea what the 3rd one does

We started to track it down last winter and lost interest. Batteries stay charged and everything works so I've kind of ignored it.

:D :D

Here's what you do Tank. Put on your "reading" glasses and get down on the floor. Lift the door to access the battery switches. Read what it says. It is small print....but that's what it said on my Bullet and TG. :D :evilb: :drink: :evilb:

Craig

PS- not sure about the three battery setup, but I would assume that the 3rd batt. is either wired onto one of the two switches unless you guys have thre switches under there?????

The third battery is usually under the drivers dash and runs the electronics, the door, and the hatch.

I'm pulling out the 2 monster batterys that belong in a semi. The boat's been sitting for 5 years and 1 of the 2 actually start bot engines. When I ran a volt meter with switches on 1 & 1 I cranked both engines & they drew from the port side. All cables are on that single battery. The '89 I had was set up with 3 batt's. Looking at this last night it looks like several holes in the stringer were for the battery mounts. Some rocket scientist decided to install these truck batt's for an unknown reason. If all goes well today I'll be splashing Saturday.
I'll post back with my findings for the curious.

Re: Cig Battery ???

I'd really like to meet the person that wired this boat for 2 batt's. Would a freaking nightmare. # batts belong in this boat! I installed the starboard batt no problem. That has 2 +'s and 1 -. Now the port (not including the charger) has 1 + 3 large -'s and a ton of small -'s. I hook everything up and used a post adapter to accept all the grounds.
In the switch panel here's as follow's;
Starboard switch on 1, starboard engine draws from starboard batt.
Port switch on 2 draws from port side batt.
I would imagine you have 2 batt switches & they should both be on "1". Am I missing something ?

Mine doesn't have the writing either. i always put them on both.
if you put them both on 1 doesn't that mean that they are only running on one battery? i would think that one should be on 1 and the other on 2 or am i missing something?

Each engine has its own alternator and each is meant to charge and run off its own battery - ideally! - unless one battery is dead or you have one bad alternator, both switches should be on "1"

Looks like i learned something new. i will do that, now it probably won't work. :D

Yep. And I guess it makes sense, kind of. I'm no expert, but I would assume that if both switches are on "both," then the the two engines, batteries and alternators are essentially wired together in paralell.

But it seems that most folks run with them on "both" without issue.

I fixed the pic, the first one may be blurry.

thisistank 09-11-2006 01:27 PM

Re: Cig Battery ???

I don't see why running them on both would hurt the alternators. You are charging two batteries in series with two alternators. Really not loading up the Alts.

H20 Toie 09-11-2006 10:15 PM

Re: Cig Battery ???

The only issue i see is if one alt goes bad you would not know it if they are set to both. But i would have thought that the 1 would be for one battery and the 2 for the other. Well next time out i will set them both on one and see what happens.
