First I've ever seen it. What's the history behind it?

Re: Cigarette Cat

In 1979, Francesco Cosentino won the World Championship down in Mar del Plata, Argentina. For the following year 1980, the World Championship race was to be held in Venice, Italy.

Cosentino figured that the race course would be calm, and instead of using a V hull to compete, he thought a cat would be better suited to the Venitian waters.

He approached Don Aronow and Hal Halter who were partners in Cigarette at the time. They contacted Billy Seebold of outboard racing fame and asked him to design a suitable boat.

This 38 foot cat was Seebold's design.

The idea of using a cat was correct, as Betty Cook and her Cougar cat won the race and the World Championship.

I have that picture too. I wish they would have kept going with them. It would be neat to see what it would be today.

Don also built a couple 28 cats (Squadron). Brownie can fill in the history. They were 28 Cig's cut with a tunnel.

Don also bought a 24 hull from me at banana boat, to split and made a 24 cat out it.....it did 100 with twin outboards.

What about that big'ol 38-40 footer that was built under the us customs program. Even though it didn't say Cigarette on it it was designed by Don I believe. Phil has one sitting in Spinnaker Marina. It's on the bottom level to the left as you walk in the large doors.

Alls correct but the years was 1978 for the World Title to Cosentino in Mar Del Plata and 1979 the next W.C. Final in Venice.

Alls it's correct but the years was 1978 when Cosentino won the W.C. in Mar Del Plata in very rough seas and 1979 for Venice in very flat waters, where Kaama cat killed alls the entrants.
