Cigarette 24

 Anyone on here ever do a rework or a makeover on the 1970's 24 footer that had the teak inlaid decks? I am getting ready to do a complete makeover and am looking for any and all ideas. I am planning on eliminating the teak and going with a smooth and clean profile deck and engine hatch. Thanks....Rob

That's to bad. That is what made that boat really unique. A little sanding and some polyuethane go a long way. My families first boat was a 24' with the teak decks.

My favorite 24 was the one built in the early 80's with the smooth deck. Both boats had the same hull. With the complete refit and repower (single screw) I am undertaking, I figure it's worth the efforts. Just my personal taste, that's all.

This might be a stupid question, but I'm learning all the time about the old cigs...what are the major differences of that cig 24 to the Firefox a few yrs later?

boatnuts 12-20-2006 07:39 AM

Re: Cigarette 24

The Firefox has a 7 ft 4-1/2" beam and is 24 ft 3-1/2" long. The 24 built aprox. 1971-76 and early 1980's is 23 ft. 11" and has a beam of 7 ft 10".

Re: Cigarette 24

nocigarette - presently it is is bare bones naked. Hull is in great shape but decks are a disaster. Teak is all off but the deck super structure is colapsing. Had to put it away till April so presently just laying out how I am going about the deck reconstruction and accumulating all the new hardware. Have a nice new Mercruiser/Bravo sitting in a crate already for it. Will see what I can find in a photo tonite.

Is the 24 Banana an exact copy of the early 24 Cigarette? (other than the non skid Banana deck)

Good stuff guys!

A 24 without the teak is like

A fountain without a beak!!!

Re: Cigarette 24

To the best of my knowledge, the original 24 Banana hull came out of the molds that were given them by Don Arronow.

Years ago I owned a SleekCraft dealership in Fox Lake Il. We took a boat in on consignment that was an early 24' Cigarette. It also had the teak deck (with an unusually large hatch right in the middle). It also had a vee-drive. I may have a pic or two of it. If I find them I will post. The boat was blue and at the time had a blown-up early Crysler Hemi in it.

Here is a 1974 teak deck 24 I have my eye on. 2 straight 6 cylinders.

Re: Cigarette 24

ITTLFLI - same as mine except for colour and mine had twin 190HP - 4 cyl.
Beware of fuel tank - mine was rotten on the sides and was a SOB to get out. Also, based on age, the transom is probably wet & rotten- mine was.

The one I posted pics of was supposedly from the lake erie region. I see you're there now, but not sure if you grew up there? It could be the same boat your family had?!

I due like teak but i think it should only be used on the interior of a boat for trim areas, in my opinon i think the boat should be seamless all a solid color......Cool project get to work, we need more old school projects around here....If there is anything i can due to help let me know i have had mine down to the stringers and beyond......heres a pic of my favorite paint job and boat.........a solid color with the old school stripes cant beat em..............bad pics but ya get the idea

Re: Cigarette 24

nocigarette - nice paint! Being the " plain jane" that I am, my plan is decks and hull all white with a red chine stripe and a few deep navy accents. Have yet to decide if I will go with a stripe down the center of the deck. Intereior white with red and navy accents.
