Did Powerboat ever do a real article

on the Gladiator? All I remember is Teague taking out a friend's early model boat and promising a full write up later.

I never saw the follow-up, did they do it or no?

No they didn't. When Powerboat does their articles (Speed trials, new model tests, etc.) they put out the invitation to all manufacturers. Cig never brought a Gladiator for any of the tests.

If they wanted to do that with Fountain they would have to use an Excalibur....

You know DT, the 42' Founatin started life as a 31' Excalibur. Then you add a beak and a platform and you get your 42.... :D

I assumed it was powerboat that skipped the Gladiator over since until very recently, they seem to avoid non-cabin purpose built boats. Of course that is now the rage.

Nope, they throw the offers out and whichever boat the manufacterers show up with is the boat they go with.

I don't know why Cig never sent out a Glad for the performance (speed) trials. There's really no limitations on motors or anything. Phil should've sent out one of his with some nice Zuls in it. That would've been nice to see in the pages.

And now all the talk of killing the Gladiator off. I am suprised Cigarette wouldn't take advantage of all the free press.

I would personally have them tone down all the logos on the models the do turn in to Powerboat. Even in the pictures you get a sense of enough already.

And to hijack my own thread, Even though I would never own a fishing rig, I have to say I loved the billet roof supports in the last issue. The writers were uneasy about them and I cannot understand why?

The only issue they had with them was they were kind've bulky and made vision an issue. Not a huge deal. They actually really liked the craftmanship that went into them and thought they looked cool, just not so user friendly I guess.
