How much to Pay.....
I hope to get some responses to this....
I'm looking at my 1st Cigarette. It's a 1988 31' Bullet. Cabin is in good shape, cockpit in only fair shape with some stains and rips on the back seat. It was recently completely painted fire engine red (deck and hull). Bravo drives in good shape. Trailer in good shape. The engines are B&M blown 454, with stainless marine exhaust. 1 engine is about 3 years old and the other was just rebuilt. It still needs to have belts, pulleys, etc. to be hooked up. I have not heard either engine run yet and want to know: What is worth as it sits? What is worth if he finishes it and we take it out for a test drive? Where can I get some Cigarette graphics (vinyl) from? (the Cig website only has new boats and apparel and I didn't see anything that would help) |
Re: How much to Pay.....
Be carefull, whatever you pay you could still end up dumping in another 40K. Drives & Engines. Unless you do the work yourself.

Re: How much to Pay.....
Sorry, I have a chance to pick up this boat for $30K to $35K
If he puts the Stbd engine back together and we take it out, he may want as much as $40K. Can anyone help out with some graphics. I want at the least the large Cigarette emblems for the sft section of the hull. I would also like "Cigarette" or "Bullet" on the deck. I think that will be close to the factory graphics. |
Re: How much to Pay.....
there are several guys on OSO that can do the stickers for you and they dont cost all that much. do a search in the cig section for "logo" and you will find sources.
As far as the all red Bullet, i know which one your talking about. 30k seams like a fair price for it (if you like red) as long as it passes a marine survey. just my opinion.... |
Re: How much to Pay.....
If you can get it for that its a ok deal.
If it still has original guages in it and you need any I have a full dash assembly from mine Make sure to check gimbal rings as they are probably worn. A good additon to the Bullet or any performance deep v would be full to the helm hydraulic steering. Also make sure you get a good survey done When they go through the hull with a moisture meter make sure he check around the gimals and also the stingers. Brace yourself was right I would expect to drop a little on it when you get it 5-6k for new vinyl 4k to the helm steering depending on dash to update to white is pricey. Alot of guys on her have redone Bulet and it is a worth while project. Alot of tips can be found on the board Depending on the motors HP you may see the 77 mph range Good Luck l |

Re: How much to Pay.....
Some of you are familiar with the boat. Can you tell me any history? Owned by an older gentleman? The new stbd engine was done because of a broken valve spring? How long has it been for sale? Any known problems? Was it painted to hide anything?
The whole reason I'm looking at it is because I've wanted a Cigarette for a long time and this is about the cheapest I've seen. Thanks for the help guys. |

Re: How much to Pay.....
been for sale for at least 6 months.
what i was told: seller is second owner. motors havent been started for 1.5 years. trailer is 5-6 years old. the pics of the motors and drives look like its been used in salt its whole life. lots of corrosion. red boats are tough to sell and they like to oxidize. if you havent seen the boat in person i can forward you a bunch of pics. the one Lucky Strike is helping to sell would be a better value depending on what he will take for it. imho |

If that Bullet doesn't work out, I'm selling a 1989 Pro Series Bullet for a friend of my dad's. He bought it brand new. It has 454 Magnums and bravo drives. Boat is maintained with an open checkbook. We're asking $38,500.

Re: How much to Pay.....
Haven't bought one yet. I'm not in the biggest hurry due to the season. I'm trying to line up my friend (a mechanic) and a surveyor to go look at it. I'm still thinking on what to offer.
With Starboard engine not started and not put in the water buying it "AS IS" I'm thinking 22-23K. If he gets the starboard engine finished and we take it out and it runs good and only needs TLC, I'm thinking around 28K. What do you guys think? Are those fair for both parties? He's been "sorta trying" to sell it for quite a while for 35K. Some here think I should stay away from this one, but I'm like a kid wanting a new toy. If I can't get a Cig for low to mid 30's, I may have to settle for "gag" a Scarab or a Formula or some lesser boat j/k There are other brands out there, many of them good, but I really want a Cig. |

If not, stay away. |
OK, I finally have an update. In the last couple of months there have been several Bullets for sale. More, in fact, than usual. I really wanted a Cig, but I have a beer budget. Anyway, the CHEAPEST Bullet was one down in the Bayou that had sunk (sorta) from the hurricane. That one was less than 20K, but needed the drives and engines totally gone thru and probably had a problem with every electrical connection on the whole boat. 2nd cheapest was the red one. 3rd cheapest was the one posted here for $38500 but with no trailer down in FL.
I've checked out the red one carefully, had a mechanic check it and have heard it run, forward and reverse, tabs and all mechanical systems except the head (toilet) work. I've put down 5K on it and only need to get a sea trial to close the deal. I KNOW it needs lots of work, but it is useable as is this year. I only plan to clean it up this year and maybe get some vinyl logos and/or graphics this year. I plan to get the upholstery done this coming winter and work on the inside and to completely repaint the following year after I decide on graphics. After carefully checking the hull and deck (which was recently painted horribly, but it is shiny), this boat apparently came from Cigarette as a totally red hull and deck. I am not an expert, but I had never heard or seen an all red larger Cig. I do NOT plan to keep it all red. I'll probably have a white deck and hull bottom and probably something in Red/white/black on the hull sides. Next will be to name her.....I'm psyched!!!!!! |
congrats and good luck:cool:

Have fun you will love it they are great boats.
|
