38 Top Gun question

What speed would you expect from a 38 mid 80's model with 450HP a side and bravo drives?

Stormrider 03-30-2007 03:26 PM

62-64?

In some 1986 boats and on most '87 models and newer, a step was included in the transom. I'm assuming yours is a non - step. If non step, I agree with StormRider. If it has a step, that is good for a couple of MPH.

Barry, do you mean a notched transom?

O.C.Barry 04-03-2007 01:57 PM

Sorry, I meant a notch, not a step.

StormRider - Thanks for the correction. I guess that is a side effect of Flexoril! (hurt my back)

The new Top guns have steps and notches. I'm not sure about 450 HP, but I do know that with stock 500 EFI's Tres Martin has rigged them to go well into the 80's. The new hulls don't turn as sharply though. Because they are basically 'ventilated' hulls, there is less wetted surface and I've seen them spin out in turns if they try to take the turn too aggressively.
