cig 20

Are there any years better than others for a cigarette 20. What speed can be expected with various hp motors. What is the biggest motor that has been put in one. Also what are the best drive options.
Thanks

I have road in a few differant years from mine 1976 to a budys 2006 thay all ride differant and have thier good points and bad points so it become sort of a personal thing, what you like a deep v or one with a pad . I run a 540 cubic inch motor and have seen 85mph on the GPS as for the best outdrive all my boats are old so i have know idea on the best drive i have seen a few differant ones thats about it

I agree with Mike about the difference in ride characters. I had the pleasure of spending 100’s of hours in a friends 1978 Cigarette 20 454. 330 TRS when it new. I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale and started my boating at 12 in a 13’ Boston Whaler. After the Whaler I got an 18’ Donzi then a 16’ Donzi Outboard with a 150 Merc then another 18 Donzi with a 350 / 350. I had the pleasure of riding in numerous Cigarette 20’s over the years. What made the largest difference to me was BBC vs. SB and outdrives. I currently have a 1979 Cigarette 20’ with a HP 425, TRS. The boat is an awesome ocean boat and great lake boat. One downside of the BBC and TRS is that when you come down off of a plane if you are not careful you will end up with a back seat full of water, and some unhappy guest. My boat runs 73 on the GPS and I do not have the prop correct. These boats like HP and going fast! They are totally different boats at higher speeds. If you buy a 20 Cigarette you will keep it forever! It’s a blast. Randy
