Looking at a Cig

I'm looking at a 79 Mistress with 502's, #3 drives and Barg Warner transmissions. What can you guys tell me about these boats? Good? Bad?

That is going to be the general consensus on Mistresses - great lines, rock solid wave crushers, a classic rig that any cig aficianado will appreciate, and most will tell you that you can't go wrong with numbered drives.

Well how was it?

POS!!!

I don't even think it was a Cig. Lake Michigan would have broke the thing in half. Wasted a vacation day and 10 hours travel time. We looked at the boat for 20 minuits (2 was enough) and left.

Thats sucks hopefully you didn't drive to far/ I went with a buddy to look at a boat in North Carolina and had the same experience, the guy totally misrepresented the boat. Talk about a waste of time!:angry-smiley-055: :angry-smiley-044:

I did too - went to look at a 34' Scarab III, in Charlotte, N.C. (before I realized I had to have a cig), and there was a 18" x 2" section of fiberglass missing out of the bottom of the boat, obviously everything was damp inside, neither engine had oil caps on it, and generally the boat was a FAR from the way the guy described it. Very frustrating.

I have one for sale . . .

I have a 1978 35' Mistress for sale . . . it's a project boat that is essentially ready to be reassembled and rigged to your personal specs. I have fresh 496 cubic inch stroker motors, fresh Speedmaster II drives, fresh BW72C transmissions, fresh cockpit interior and cabin cushions, fresh IMCO hydraulic steering, K-Planes, Stainless Marine Gen III dry exhaust, a 2003 tri-axle trailer that has been wet less than a half a dozen times, new jet black Awlgrip on the hull sides, I'm asking $35k but I am open to reasonable cash offers as I want the boat gone, soon!

If you want a true wave-crushing, vintage Cigarette, and you want the ability to finish to your specs, this one is for you. If you do not want a project, nor do you understand what the project entails, then it is not, and good luck on your search!

If anyone has an interest, feel free to email me at [email protected] with your phone number and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thanks,

Harry

There is a Mistress for sale on this site that I have seen and rode with (but not in). He was at a poker run this past weekend. Beautiful, solid wave crusher with strong 540's in it. Not sure of top speed, but well into the 70's I would guess. And it's for a great price in my opinion. It's the one in NC. Check it out.

All of those are very nice boats but my son and I are looking at another boat right now.

Thanks

And brokered out of New Buffalo?

Quiet Storm 08-25-2007 01:19 PM

It's going to take a lot of green to get it but it's not in New Buffalo.

Here's a pic of the 1982 Mistress at the dock before the HRPA poker run. The guy has spent alot of money and has lots of receipts and the engines are fairly fresh strong runners. I'm running blower motors and he seems to be at least as fast as I am. It may be long drive, but I'd give the boat an 8 or 9 out of 10 for the year (No, he's not my brother, just a member of the same club :) )
