Replaced TRS with Konrad 540's
2 Attachment(s)
Had new Konrad 540's installed last week on my '89 35 Cafe Racer. After alot of investigation.......thought this was the best way to go. This boat is a keeper and I hope to get many years of enjoyment without worrying about the drives. I had the trannys rebuilt at same time. Wish me luck. I will test them
out this weekend. |
dang Tommy, fast movin, look great :), looks great...House up the street supposedly sold. Who did the switch for you?
|
great move!

Sorry the house you wanted sold.......but a couple of houses down from that house is one for sale. This one is a fairly new rebulid. Looks great. Think it is priced in the 700's though. About the Konrads............... There is a shop in Edgewater...MDG Performance located at Londontown Marina, ask for Dave. They did a first class job. They really know their stuff, and I spent alot of time trying to locate a really good shop. They have tons of experience with performance boats. I really want to thank them again for a great job. I would highly recommend their work. If anyone in the Maryland area needs some work on their boats........give them a call at 410-956-5381. I'm going to use them again for sure. |
Dave did a bangup job on his Y2K konrad as well.
|
You have a great setup now. The Konrads are tough, and the factory people really support the product.
|
Sweet lookin Cafe!!! Good luck with the Konrads
|
We just met Dave at MDG on Wednesday. We're in Annapolis for a conference right now and we stopped by to say hi and go for a ride in his Superboat. He has a really nice shop and tons of great performance boats around. He's a top notch guy as well. Anybody would do well to have Dave work on their stuff!
|
I have to agree with all the others. Konrad 540's are the best replacement for TRS. They make the swap a breeze compared to other drives that require more work and setup. Keep us all informed about the performance and reliability of the Konrad 540's. Looks Great
|
You will love the Konrads. No more worrys about blowing drives. Follow the break in procedures recommended by Konrad and you will have no problems.
What HP are you running through them? Mark:cool-smiley-011: |
I found an awsome shop in Arnold Maryland to work on boats. You will not fing a man that is as fare and knows what he is doing that Art Lilly.
|
switching to Konrad solve one part of the older TRS for sure Drive speaking... But, I though the rest (transom plate, gimbal, transom bearing and all related parts besides the drives) were discontinued, thus making repairs / maintenance tougher finding parts??? Can we still get all those parts easily?
|
You can buy the replacement 2 ways. one is just replace the the helmut and the other is the whole transom assembly. Which is what i did and it looks like Ex did also.
It is an easy switch out. I did mine in one day. Mark |

I know I dont have a superboat but an old excalibur but maybe you guys can help me out. i have been restoring this boat for the past 4 years. I was going to change over to a bravo I from the alpha i have now this year but the crankshaft in my 350 broke and i had to build a new motor so i didnt have the money to update the drive this year. I built the motor i was going to run with the the bravo(383 525 hp) knowing the alpha wouldnt hold up long but i didnt think it would eat it up in 3 weekends. I was wrong. could someone point me in the right direction on how to set up the boat for the new power? what bravo drive can i get away with. standard / or xz , xr? I have been told a stock bravo should do just fine. Also i would like to know what x dimension for the best speed. What trim tabs should i use. Any help would be great.
|
79ex- a XR will be fine. The XZ is a good drive but it isnt made anymore.
EX27-Congrats on the Konrads!!!!!!!!! We are a dealer and I really like their product. |
how fast do you guys think my excalibur will run? It should be around 515 to 525 hp at 6300 rpm. Any idea on what the boat weight is and what prop i should run at least start with. I have a 21 23 and 25 cleavers also 23 and 25 mirage and 19p quicksilver. I need to get rid of some props i think but you never know what will work for your boat.

They look BadA$$ eX27  Great move with a keeper boat like that. Friend of mine just did 540s in his 84 Mistress this past winter and doesn't regret it a minute or a penny ... loves the performance, and security or peace of mind. He tells me each and every time out it 'pays' dividends :)
He did new gimbles whole transom assembly option ... |
Great Drives.. I replaced mine last winter on an 84 mistess and have nothing but good things to say about these drives.. Follow the break in procedures and you will have hours of worry free boating when it comes to the drives... Good Luck and safe boating
|
:cool-smiley-011: The Konrads are absolutely wonderful. Still can't run WOT yet....still breaking them in.
Definitly a worthwhile investment....now no worries. Boating season is too short for problems. Thanks again MDG Performance.

Let us know how you like them after the break in period... If you love them now just wait until you have them for awhile and are not worried about blowing a drive every time you're out...GOOD LUCK.. Sweet looking boat!!!!

Put the Konrads on my Mistress, and ran them this summer. No problems with the drives. Changed the oil after the 10 hour break in period with Biggus. Everything looked great. Nice to go boating and not worrying about lower pinion gears breaking, cases flexing and drive failure. I would highly reccomend the drives. I am running about 675 HP. The boat in running around 75. Going to get some prop work done in the fall at BBlades. Need to carry the bow a little more when trimmed up.
