ok I now have altered spread sheet to have State instead of location and have a space for name
I will organize by year (get from HIN) also include props and top speed |
Finally, owners can find out about Cigs in the area and where certain boats may be. I would bet the majority of people in this forum would appreciate the info.

It might be a daunting task, but it would also be great if we could track current and past owners. It's always nice to know your boat's history. :)

It sounds like this would be a nice application for the website as a whole.
Not something that needs to be overly managed, but a section for each boat builder perhaps? More info below... I realize the above example sheet does not ask for all of these which I describe below, but be sure to not let the scope creep, and/or expose yourself. ***** Sorry to go deep here, but a word of caution: ***** The main issue is internet privacy of PII, or Personally Identifiable Information. This is a big deal; in the legal and privacy world (where I spend the other half of my time). PII is defined as: * Full name (if not common) * National identification number (SSN/SIN/Tax ID) * Telephone number * Street address * E-mail address * IP address (in some cases) * Vehicle registration plate number (boat registrations count too; as do USCG documented name and hailing port) * Driver's license number * Face, fingerprints, or handwriting * Credit card numbers * Digital identity Knowing 3 or more of these is enough to ammo to cause havoc for someone if a bad guy desires. Just to put it into context, if I know of a Cigarette Bullet's name, general area, owner's name, and hailing port; how easy would it be for me to figure out what marina the owner is familiar with, and tell the 14 year old behind the register to "put it on my tab, I don't have my wallet with me." Back to my original thought. This might be something better managed from a higher level, so as not to put OSO at a risk.. If something could be configured to where only authorized folks can view the info, and spam-bots nor Internet scammers/hijackers/identity thieves could gain access, it would be a cool tool. My middle name is not "Bummer". I like the concept, just make sure its done safely. |
