Wow, must of hit something?

Lucky Strike Jr 11-18-2007 08:55 AM

From what I understand, he hit something in the water during the SCOPE Poker Run and the boat started to take on water. Too bad, that was a great boat!

POOL WHORE 11-18-2007 09:04 AM

We got the call from John that they were taking on water and needed assistance during the SCOPE Poker Run. My heart dropped when I heard that the Coast Guard was pumping her dry to keep the ole gal from going under. I was saddened to learn that the hullside was blown out. She was a blast!

not rough at all. There was however some debris in the water. Most likely hit a telephone pole or large tree stump.

Magic Medicine 11-18-2007 11:08 AM

Ouch that is too bad. Saw the classified ad and wondered what happened?

You guys are fast :p I gotta start getting up earlier

Tank is right, but whatever it was, I didn't see it. We were on our merry way to the island when my passengers started complaining of wet feet...

Thanks to the SoCal Lifeguards we were able to keep up with the water coming in, and motor back to safety.

I really hope there is someone out there with the skill and recourses to fix her up.

Griff 11-18-2007 05:15 PM

John, I see you updated the ad and have a deal pending. Hopefully it goes through and they can fix the hull and get it back on the water. Sorry to here that it happened in first place, but glad nobody got hurt.

thisistank 11-18-2007 06:30 PM

John, whats next? Buying another with all that insurance money I hope.

SDR_John 11-19-2007 10:15 AM

Hey Griff, yeah, the most important thing is that no one got hurt. Boats can be fixed and/or replaced. How's that AT treatin' ya?

Tank, we aren't going anywhere... now that we've gotten our feet wet (is that not the worst pun ever :D ) we will be back for more... Gonna let the dust settle a little bit, then the shopping begins! Now if we could only sell these damn racecars... :cool-smiley-011:

The AT treated me great all summer. Got a few small winter projects to do to make it "mine" Overall we're real happy with it..

SDR_John 11-19-2007 04:13 PM

Well its a done deal... :D:(

She is staying in SoCal and I'm delivering her to the new owner before Thanksgiving, so hopefully she will be on the water again soon.

Notice my new "boat info"...

hurleyr 11-21-2007 08:16 PM

Hey John,
I saw the flamingo heading South on the 405 today. Must be a done deal? I bet your sorry to see her go.

Good luck on the next boat hunt.

Rob....

Hot Duck 11-21-2007 10:10 PM

It's a long haul, but I am sure that Guardado can fix it. Take a look at their web site and look at the stuff they have fixed in the past!

Fiberglass is a different process, how do you patch Carbon Fiber? Or is it the same?

Well,
I went down to look at my motors last week and now I know why Pfaff can charge the big bucks. They look awsome. If its not painted its polished baby.

The boat is down at Anchors Way Marina getting the bilge Awlgripped. Motors will be a dark metalic blue and engine room will be bright white. Its coming along real nice. Engine compartment will be ready for parts to go back in by end of next week. Motors may be a while. They are just about done with one and I told them to take their time on the other. I should be starting on the outside paint in about a week.

My goal is June 2008. I'll start a thread on the rebuilt once I make a little more progress.

JUNE 08!? That's not going to do! Havasu poker run is the end of April!!!:D

Sounds like things are moving along nicely and the end result is definatley going to be worth the wait. Can't wait to see it on the water.

The actual hull is not carbon fiber.

Are you sure ?

DirtyMoney 11-23-2007 09:32 AM

I always thought the carbon Cigs were just carbon reinforced.

lucky strike 11-23-2007 09:41 AM

I owned the Pink Flamingo & I believe the hull & deck were carbon.

Hey Steve, I was told by Craig Barrie (on a couple occassions) the Carbon fiber models were just reinforced with a layer of carbin fiber in the engine compartment only.

Not 100% sure. I have read about varying degrees of the actual amounts of Carbon fiber used on the older Carbon Fiber edition TG's. I am sure that they are not 100% carbon fiber layups. They are still layed up with a lot of fiberglass.

BADA BING 11-23-2007 03:02 PM

I am pretty sure that the boats are all fiberglass, and at certain structural points they have laid Carbon Fiber for added strength...I think there is a misconception that the carbon was more for weight, but I believe it was more for strength and long term durability, however I am not an expert but I know in the past on certain aerodynamic parts that we have offered this was a common practice, certain bumpers made from fiberglass always had a strip of carbon/kevlar laid in the center for added strength and support for mounting points.
