cigarette quality

I may get hung by the nuts for this, but I must say the quality I was expecting from cigarette was not their. The fit & finish was sub par.. the cabin int was a disaster. the headliner was loose the beading completly fell off. the ride was the best of all the boat Ive had. but the quality was just not their. IMO>

PremierPOWER 01-09-2008 11:26 AM

did you buy your boat new?

29scarab 01-09-2008 11:38 AM

customryder,

A lil' more info would be helpful, so the board could get a better idea of where your coming from.

Haven't heard anything bad about CIG's when it comes to fit and finish,,,maybe an older model boat might have some issues, but I can't see it coming from a new one.

Thanks,
Shawn

Pretty strong statement; completely opposite of my findings.
What year, what boat, what model?

Hollowpoint 01-09-2008 12:32 PM

I say hang em by the nuts! :)
No boat listed under your avatar, posting in the Cig section, no details given, no comparisons, gez, you should have brought your own rope to the party!

Details please.

CR had a 06 38 TG that he owned about 6 months in 2007.

The boats are nice, but remember most of these boats are fiberglass laid up and painted by humans. I have seen a few new boats with sloppy paint lines (overspray) and wavey glasswork but this can happen on any boat line.

CR, by the way how much did it cost you to run a 38 TG for a season? Compared to owning your 36 NT which boat cost you less to own?

Cigarette has the brand image which is 50% of the battle when it comes to resale.

OL40SVX 01-09-2008 12:35 PM

His was a 2006 T/G GT and he bought it used.

kvscarab38 01-09-2008 12:39 PM

get rid of it for you

If its that bad I'll come take it off your hands how much you going to pay me for removal????

The only "quality" issue I've seen on newer Cigs is the hull/deck joint on the Top Guns. Very wavy in this area with gaps filled with caulk around the transition to the transom. But they are not a class A finished hull and that is OK as all Cigs these days end up painted and bodywork/paint hides most of the mold flaws. It really isn't a quality issue as much as it is a cosmetic issue. Otherwise, the fit and finish, rigging, materials used, etc. all appear to be top notch.

customryder 01-09-2008 01:04 PM

the boat was great over-all.. Just saying it could of been better.. a cigarette will more that likley be my next boat.. I have looked at some "other" high end boats & they were sloppy as well.. I dont think anyone builds a true quality boat these days.. Just my opinion... & just for the record for the guys that dont know me i have owned just about all of the brands out their. (top five)

Sooooo, What year model boat was that again???

don aronow 01-09-2008 01:38 PM

I've been away for a while and I guess quality has suffered. I'll make it right!

PremierPOWER 01-09-2008 01:40 PM

lol

BLee 01-09-2008 01:42 PM

Helps to go through a dealer that actually see's the boats progress throughout the build, or has the wear and tear issues resolved after taking a used boat on trade. This should happen loooong before the customer see's the boat much less owns it.

My 92 Gun came looking and running like absolute chit from the dealer when I had it, however my 02 looked and ran boat show perfect when delivered. Both boats were bought used, and within 1-2 years of being new, and from different dealers.

BillR 01-09-2008 02:28 PM

Mine is a 2002 and I have been very impressed with Cig's fit & finish.
Mine was built in the old factory, you would think the new factory would be more likely to turn out better product than the old place.

THEJOKER 01-09-2008 02:39 PM

We raced a extended cover girl 02 w/ 575's and the pillows didn't hardly move. Those boats are a piece of work!

Jeff, by your own admissions you have said that you are a pretty anal guy. I mean this with no disrespect but can anyone live up to your expectations? Even when buying a new car, we look for things wrong, the employees making them are doing a job, wether it be high or low production, they wont put the care and the extra degree that you would. In my Tiger I see things I would have done differently, but I do understand why it is done that way, my way would take more time, manufacturers are on a schedule.... and for those of you that made comments with no knowledge about him...I say this, Mark, shut up, you really dont need to comment on everything...

dreamer 01-09-2008 07:51 PM

theyre all bad.... cigs just the best of em

thisistank 01-09-2008 08:42 PM

I don't know what you guys are talking about saying theres no quality boats built now....Like the quality of the boats from the late 70's and 80's were better quality!? Give me a break. Fit and finish, technology and attention to detail have all improved leaps and bounds. The whole "bling factor" of the past 10 years have pushed manufacturers to pay more attention to detail.

There's many quality built boats out there and I've crawled over and under many of them. Cigarette (in my opinion) is the best fit and finish and rigging out there. Add a Lip-ship to the game and there's none better (Refer to my signature line).

Hey, you're allowed to voice (type) your opinions but you have to realize, it's not often (ever that I remember) that anyone has ever said, they are not impressed with the build quality of Cigarette.

And seriously. If you want a boat to meet your every expectation from top to bottom....By a new boat from Phil...Period!

So true. Cigarette is still the king of the fit and finish dept....And Jeff, don't forget, you bought a used boat. Who knows, if for some reason, the cabin was taken apart and redone. You cannot really comment 100% accurately without knowing the FULL history of your pre-owned boat. Some hack and not Cig may be to blame.

UNCLEJOBIN 01-09-2008 10:35 PM

My 95 Top gun has been around the block and been beat up in rough water, and all I wave to do is flush it out and put it away. Sound like a quailty offshore boat to me!!!

Buy anothe brand and start putting the cabin doors back on, rebolting the bolster and see what you think then????

Just 2 Cents!!!

But why did you put your current one up for sale about a week after you took delivery? You built a killer boat you should enjoy it!

Don
Are you going to buy a FREE BEN KRAMER T shirt?

wespin 01-11-2008 05:16 PM

I looked at a bunch of boats while looking for my last one and Cigarette was tops in fit and finish. I settled on an '04 and it is great!! To each his own......

The better quality the product the more critical the customer .
My 95 Top Gun has stood up better than some boats 10 years newer that I have seen .
