katrina sinker. never get the mold out. shame.....

Hollowpoint 01-26-2008 08:25 AM

That's been around for at least a year and a half. I won't be that worried about mold, it would be rot and possibly every electrical connection in the whole boat.

That being said, the boat is still worth something, and if it passed a survey would make someone a good project boat. Is 20 grand a decent price for 502 crate motors? I thought that was a little high?

What's the history on this boat? Anybody seen it?

Hollowpoint 02-04-2008 06:40 PM

I just had a couple of emails and some pics from the guy. Never saw it in person. Anyone on here seriously thinking about it?

Cig35Mistress 02-04-2008 09:18 PM

I was considering it semi-seriously. According to the owner, who is a Sea Tow Captain, the boat was in a dry stack marina during Katrina. He bought it directly from the owner, not the insurance company. He "never did anything with the motors" because he intentions were to install the new 502's. When asked if the boat was underwater, his response was, "I can't say for sure, the marina was in a flood zone though." In my mind, that was a veiled "yes."

Anyone care to shed any light on this boat? I'd buy it if someone could tell me for sure that it wasn't underwater . . . I have power ready and waiting for it . . .

Harry

I was told exactly what the previous post said. Cig35, from your location, are you close enough to check it out one weekend with a surveyor?

Cig35Mistress 02-05-2008 08:06 AM

I'm in Florida - the boat is in Mississippi.

If I were to get real serious about it, I would survey it.

Thanks,

Harry

Im gonna guess the boat was underwater. some of the pics that were sent to me showed the water lines in the cabin. and most of the guages are full of water. He is supposed to send me some more pics. the motors most likely are still full of water. nothing was ever done to them. gonna be a project!! What do you guys think its worth??

It would be hard to justify spending anything on the boat unless you are going to keep it. With nicely re-done Bullets having a hard time selling at 50-60K, there would be more in this boat than it's worth (market value). It's a real shame to see one that's not in it's glory!:(

Add it up:
Engines
drives
wiring
cabin
cockpit seats/bolsters
gauges
hours of labor
misc others.........

That's not even taking into consideration if the hull and transom are intact.

The $$$ adds up quickly!!!!

If someone plans to buy it, fix it, use it for a year, then sell it, you're right Old School, it's not worth it. But the saying is every boat is a hole that you throw money in.

If someone has the the garage space, and likes to work on projects, I would think the boat is worth at least 10-15K, especially with the trailer. I'd screw the cabin and maybe even the cockpit (unless it's rotten) for now, find some used engines to last a couple years, exchange the drives, and get the electrical up to par and use it. Work on the rest over the next 3-4 seasons.

You could probably get it to a running project stage and spend 30-35K if you did some of the work yourself. You are right though, it will cost over 50K by the time it's done.

The 1st step is someone needs to be serious enough to spend the $'s to survey it and see what is REALLY there. I just hate to see it rot away.

Maybe if I win the lottery...... :)

BTW Old School, do you ever get to the southern part of the bay for any poker runs? Like Jammin on the James? That starts up near Hopewell, VA
