I've got a 1/2 ton Suburban that has a tow rating of about 8600. I bought a 10,000# hitch for it and tow it OK. However, I'm only 10 min away from the ramp. I wouldn't tow mine 80 miles with my vehicle. My 2 cents.
The previous owner of my boat told me he actually took it to a scale and measured it with 1/2 load fuel and it was like 10,400# boat and trailer. He towed it with a F350. Others will probably agree that you should look for a bigger tow vehicle. BTW, boat alone weighs over 8000# |

Another choice would be to move closer to the water :)
I think the new truck would be cheaper :) And the cost of a new wife is astronomical! |
Im Back looking at 30 Checkmates/29 outlaws.

Total weight pictured here was 18,780lbs without drives. Half tank in boat, quarter in truck.
You need to keep in mind the weight of fuel is apprx 7lbs per gallon. With the 180 gallon capacity makes that well over 1200 lbs. |

My opinion - If you have to sell your truck and get one with slightly higher mileage/a year or two older so be it - Get the boat you want though; adapting the boat to your truck is backwards. |

I trailer my curent boat to the 3 lakes with in 20 miles of syracuse NY. Thinking about moving up till all the additional cost sets in.

Bought a duramax 2500 HD crew cab 4x4 [to make sure i can get off a slick ramp] absolutely NO Problems, 3/4 ton is perfect, you can go with a 1 ton, but i figured 12,500 lbs for boat, trailer, gear, fuel, and a truck full of people and I ran it like that and the truck pulls it easily. Dont buy new, but get the boat you want.

i tow mine with a f350 dually it tows nice bullets are heavy and with a 3/4 ton it will be close on insurance if there is an accident
