Cig Bullet GPS Mounting
I will be mounting a GPS Chartplotter in the location of the current dash mounted compass in a 1989 Cig Bullet. The GPS surface mount kit requires a dash cut out of 5.76” wide by 4.46” tall, with at least 2” depth. If the hole is bigger than this, fill will be required. Does anyone know the existing factory cutout whole size behind the compass? Any mounting advice will be appreciated (best location to mount ant., mounting tricks, etc..)

Do a bullet search here. A few have done this and it came out really looking nice.

I will try to post some pics later tonight of my install and antenna mount.

Here is a link from when I did mine. Look at the bottom of page 1 for the info and pictures.

It appears I will also need to fabricate a mounting plate for the GPS unit. Do you recall the size of the mounting plate you used? Thank You

Carter,
The mounting plate looked like a rectangle with about an inch in width around the perimiter. I would measure it for you but boat is in storage for winter. Evan |

If you can do the measuring of the lexan plate it would be appreciated. My boat is in storage a state away or I would measure the available plate area. I would like to order an aluminum powercoated plate asap, to be ready for install. Thanks

I got your email about the antenna, Go to that thread that I posted and check post #94 to see where I mounted it on the dash. I went over to see my old Bullet and measure the lexan plate.....but there was still snow and ice on the cover. Next weekend on that. Sorry... Craig |

If you guys just want to know the dimensions of the lexan mounting plate, say the word and I'll go over and see my old Bullet this weekend and measure it. The guy lives less than a mile from my house. Let me know...

Thanks for checking and posting your pictures. Pics very helpful.

I went with the Garmin GPS Chartplotter 430. The surface mounting kit will not require a fabricated plate (to make up for the existing hole being to large.) The existing hole (previously for the compass) is small enough, to cut for the surface mounting hole requirements. Thanks for all the information.
