Planeing Question 02 38 TG
Buddy of mine just bought a TG and it has merc 500 na's in it. He say's it takes along time to get up on plane. He had a 36 outlaw before. I've never drove a 38 before but don't you run the tabs down till you get on plane then bring them up as desired? It's at the 4mm @ LOTO.

Yes, drop the tabs all the way down and once the nose starts to come down, start bringing the tabs up.

You may not need full tabs down. It depends on props. If it's got 3-blades and alot of pitch, full tabs adds enough drag to make it hard to keep from blowing them out when coming up.
I would try several different positions and see what works best. There are many variables and whoever propped it originally may have made some tradeoffs for top-end speed. If that's less important to you, consider swapping for a prop that could give you less cruising speed slip and easier on-plane performance. Depending on the prop, you may be able to improve it somewhat in all areas of performance. |
Thanks guys! It will be my first ride in a cig. Stoked!!

Does this boat not have 4 blade 30's??
I had a T/S (525's) with 32's and didn't need any tap and the boat got right up and rolled over...never needed any tab. |
