How fast were these boats with the 500 or 525 packages? I heard there were only 4 or 5 built...are any on the market? What are they worth?.....Jake1250

There are (4) T/S built:

1. Lip-Ship boat which we owned and sold about a year and a half ago. It had 525's, XR Shorties, boxes. It's in CA-not for sale.

2. MAXX which can be bought I believe without power. It's in NY.

3. Speed Racer, which has big blower motors and IMCO's, it has been set-up for pleasure. It's at LOTO and may be for sale..not sure.

4. Team Virgin, definatley not for sale...boat has 500's and prochargers it's in CA.

The Lip-Ship boat definatley won the most and was most known. MAXX was only raced for a few races. Speed Racer was raced and flipped over once or twice. Team Virgin was raced for a year and then sold to the current owner. Generally speaking with the 500's they ran 88-90mph DEPENDING on set-up as some are set-up better than others, some are faster than others too. Our old boat was re-rigged with 525's and ran 92-93mph. You need to do your homework on these if you are interested in buying one. If you need more info send me a PM.

Thanks...I always liked the Maxx boat...any impartial info on it? Current condition? any accidents? Thanks again for the input!

The 1998 F-2 raced by Scott Smith and Craig Barrie ran 80-82 with 500's. There was a second white and green boat built but never raced to my knowledge. These were convensional bottoms with little speed pads in the bottom.

What are the fuel tank setups in these boats? do they use a bladder like Fountain did in the 42 Pokerrun boat? Im thinking of having a F2 with the 500's or 525 for a pleasure boat...not interested in a cabin really, I just like the idea of the pedigree of a factory race boat...these in particular always intrigued me

Also , What are the downsides to owning one for pleasure, other than a cabin?

As I said, each boat was set-up differently. Our old boat had 2 tanks (non bladders) that held 70 gallons per side. The MAXX boat has bladders as does the Team Virgin boat. I'm not sure on Speed Racer.

Well, I don't know if there are any downsides other than the cabin, which to us was not a downside . Our boat did not have an electric engine hatch. The only one that does is Speed Racer. That boat is definatley the closest to a pleasure boat. It has a full bench seat (as does Maxx) and the port side has all the gauges like a regular T/S does. Maxx has a few on the port side but it does not have the standard gauge set-up. I believe MAXX is still a bare bones cabin (you'd have to check with boomer though). However, one of the previous owners of Speed Racer, (JBK) painted the cabin white and put down some lonseal flooring. Here are the cabins in the 3 boats. First one is the Lip-Ship, 2nd is MAXX (as it was when we looked at it a few years ago) and third is of Speed Racer.
