top gun fuel tank questions?? Help?

Just checkin in on some of the cigarette guys that have had there tanks out. I have a 89 gun that I used 5 days on lake michigan before I bought the boat and had NO problems at all with the fuel tanks. I filled it up and ran it dry and filled it up and ran it dry again. No problems. but the boat was always level.

Well, i get this thing home and I fill the tanks at the amaco till the pumps click off. Go the the launch ramp and the ramp is prettey steep. As the boat was on this big angle going in the water, I lift the engine hatch and I can see fuel leek out of the fuel tank wall in the engine room. So i take off the inspection cover and wiped off the fuel that was on the top of both tanks and I can see it trickle from up where i cant see. when we backed the boat in all the way level it stopped leaking. we burned roughly 30 gallons out of each side, took the boat on a wild ride and NO leaks. The tanks leaked only on that extreme angle with the tanks completely full.
(the vents are not plugged)
My question is, the large 3 inch fill hose that goes from the fill assys down to the tank(3 inch hose) is that hose connected to a 3 inch male nipple that is welded in the tank or is it connected to a 3 inch male nipple that is bolted to the tank that has a gasket on it the can leak?? Maybee the fill hose is rotted? Anybody with these same issues or someone that has had there tanks out can give me some insight in the fill neck configuration?

Any help on that would be great! Just got done installing new lonseal and interior and do not want to rip all back appart for a problem that is only at full tanks and at a stupid angle??
Thanks Guys!

Don't have a gun but I think your 3 inches hose goes to the place where it is welded... Tighten the clamp if loose, or the welding is cracked are 2 possibilities... The one bolted (on mine) is only the fuel guage...

Not sure about yours though... Keep us posted!

Unfortunaltly .. I am an expert on this !!!!! The male nipple is welded. the only other outlet on the tanks are the overflow nipple up towards the top of the tank, which is also welded. I know you dont want to hear this, but leaking fuel in a boat is nothing to take lightly... I had a hair line crack in the weld and it only leaked when it was full, apparently it aded more pressure and oozed out only when full. Anyway, remove the seats, pull up the floor, ( not as bad as you think ) and duplicate the ramp thing with the tanks exposed, you will be ableto see if the fuel is leaking. The top of the tanks are exposed, the sides are not due to the foam that surrounds them. If it is leaking and you don't see it coming from the top... then you can start pulling your hair out, cause replacing those tanks is a mother f*cker, but can be done.
If you search the Cig threads under tanks you will see some pics I posted during the replacement.

Good luck .. I hope it something simple !!
