Anybody know anything about this boat.

My buddy was going to go look at / call about this boat because it's getting cheap for such a big boat so I started doing a little homework on it and it looks like it's getting another resto that would cost more than it's worth.

I think he should buy a Top Gun so any good input would help. his price is 125k.

124 looks and nobody knows anything about that RR, you guys are making me look bad. I told my buddy that we would get more info on it than we need. I posted in the Cig. forum so I would get more true and expert feedback.

Sydwayz 03-18-2009 07:47 AM

Isn't that the first one?

seafordguy 03-18-2009 07:55 AM

It is one of only 4 or 5 flat bottom RR's that Cig Made.

I look at the ad for it about 2 times a week just wishing I could make it happen, but I just don't have the debt capacity right now to do it, especially considering the paint is HORRIBLE, but I could live with that.

Personally, I think the fact that it is a flat bottom and triple engined makes that thing appeal to next to no-one, hence the reason it has been for sale for SO long, and hence the reason that the next owner better plan on being in the boat for a LONG time.

If you're going to own that boat I think your long run plans should include taking it to a stagger - hell, if the engines actually put out 725 aside like the ad says, I would bet it would be just about as fast as a stagger as it is as a trip, and you would have an extra engine and drive in your garage!!

As I have never been in a RR, or seen this one in person, I can't offer much legitimate feedback other than the commentary above and this - if he buys it, he better have a BFT (big ****ing truck)

I think that member Blume is brokering it, but don't quote me.

Boat was owned by a guy in Pompano Beach FL.

Ck the history before you buy it.

Do you know anything here in particular that you would share either in public or via PM??

Just curious because of my infactuation with the boat.....

thisistank 03-18-2009 01:52 PM

I like it due to it having the full cabin.

However, I liked the paint as "Ruthless" better.

pm203 03-18-2009 04:55 PM

The new paint is foolish.

Absolutely agree. Hard to top that 'RUTHLESS' graphic for sheer fugly, but they have pulled it off.

It feels like whoever chose that name knows a lot about world of warcraft and not very much about boats. :chimp:

I know the rigger/ mechanic that assembled this boat.

If you want any questions answered, his name is Herb.

Give him a call @ 954-415-2959.

tanner 03-18-2009 06:36 PM

It was put together in an air conditioned building...so it must be worth something !:drink:

Yep

LapseofReason 03-18-2009 08:54 PM

Does anybody know if that is new paint, or is it a web site that shows what it could look like. I would not buy another tripp eng boat unless it's outboards or I hit the lottery. This boat might be a good one for Ilmors could save 500-1000 #s and have a stronger drive and 300+ hour motors, Or just go big 1200 hp and 6's and just go flog big water. I think with TS top guns out there for 110-150 thats where the deals are and a better boat for my buddy.

Sorry, I can't say that the math works out on your 'staggered twins would be just as fast as trips' theory. A year ago you could have looked just a little further South to Ocean City to see the proof. When RDS Systems / Kid Apache was built with trips, it ran just north of 100 MPH. Later it was converted to twins and Will Lynch had it for a while in Ocean City. The twins were pretty big HP, but the boat went just north of 80 MPH. Old style non - step boats need big HP to go fast. Not dissing you here, just my observation. Barry

The new graphics are a wrap, easy to remove!

Good to know. I wasn't sure and I've asked the question before on how much extra engine is needed to overcome the third drive, extra weight, change in CG. Actually I think I've even asked it relative to this boat!!

I am surprised it was that drastic, but either way thats some first hand knowledge and not just idle speculation....

Correct, but it also depends on the boat and the engines. the 47 apache that was quick tempered went from trips to twin sterling's and is at nearly 120, it never saw more than 95 when it had trips.

will also kept his side by side, and only eliminated the one engine, but added a half cabin, so depleting power and adding weight was a difference too.

And just how big were the twin Sterlings? LOL Agreed, if you put massive HP new twins and dry sump drives as opposed to trip 850's with wet sump drives it is an entirely different proposition.

Either way those 47 (and the one 45) Apaches sure were wave crushers. I've been on several 47's as well as Will's 45 and they just ate up rough water. When Will paced the OC race a couple years ago we were easily cruising on top of the waves while pacing. Behind us P5 boats and bat boat were completely out of sight most of the time because the troughs of the waves were so deep.

But since this is a Cigarette thread I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the 46 RR is a wave crusher in it's own right.

offshoredrillin 09-09-2009 06:35 AM

I will have one of the 47's one day... trip 850's is 2550 hp. twin sterling 1300'sis 2600..but I believe they have been de tuned to 1150's. when quick was stripped it was weighed and was only 8600 lb hull, not bad for such a huge boat.

the 2 cig 46's i would like to see out are the one that had the torque V 12's and the trip blue one that used to be at hideaway, to see that one with twin 1075's would be awesome.

Please put me down on the go for a ride's list when you get it. They are just really cool. I've been on INXS and PTM Express/Lucky Strike as well as Will's boat. I have a framed original poster of INXS in my home office, what an awesome looking boat (although they really screwed up the fades in the paint job in it's current paint). INXS and PTM used to go on poker runs with us. They are awesome.
