Honest Thoughts
I was seriously talking to Tres on this one about 2 weeks ago. Even talked to Potter perf. who has the busted engine. Thought this might be a deal so I sent a contract. Another boat that I wanted a lot worse came up, so I apologetically dropped this one. The boat I wanted, someone bought out from under me while I was in financing, so now I am back looking again.
Knowing it needs a lot of engine work, is this a value with 4 really nice TS boats under 150K that are growing grass under them. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o28551-en.html |
YOU must have thought it was a value if you had a contract on it? ? Thats what counts!

The only justification is that the payment will be smaller, but you will have to dump the cash to get it in the water and on a trailer, but on the other boats you have a bigger payment with less cash up front. With this boat, after you get it put together though, it would be like new. And really be a solid boat since it is the old hull. |
I like that boat.
Add, 30-40k in some real power and you'll be tearing it up. What? Those newer TS's w/525s + bravos? Comparing big custom power and 3a's to 525s and Bravos? Those engines will be used too. Plus, i like the older interior much better(if you want a cabin). |
That's Cash Bar's old boat. It's a real nice straight bottom.
|
Cash Bars was a 1996 with Bravos on boxes.

Quit D!KIN around and just BUY IT:D

I would say if your buying a boat and thinking resale go with a ts. If you like the boat then by all means buy it. Any way you look at it these boats just seem to suck more money out of you then you ever think. So most importantly buy what you like and don't worry about the resale.

I miss that thing everyday. For that mobey or close it would be a strong boat to buy and hold onto. |

That is the BEST advise given! Be prepared to shell it out and not worry about what you WILL have to pay for next, because there is always something else needed!!!! Quinlan |

When you think you made a great buy & you want it to stay a great buy. DON'T PUT IT IN THE WATER ! |
Everyone is different but I just can't see putting over 100K into a flat bottom when there are TS Gun's out there for a little more. But you're the only one that you have to make happy. If the boat really call's to you then do it.

Agreed - To me, if the cabin is really important to you, that that TG that Tres has for sale would certainly make for a great boat, if the cabin isn't important to you go with the T/S so you get the efficiency, resale, value, performance, etc.....
I love the transmission drives though. THey are so smooth when you are shifting, and they just don't break very often once they are put together correctly. |
Jeff, are you a modern twin step kind of guy???

The TS boats also are a lot better on fuel etc. overall. |
I redid a 98 flat bottom.... it was a mistake. The old hulls will always drop in value at a faster rate than the twin stes. Also when you go to resale, you will have a bigger audience wit hthe twin step. ican't speak for everyone, but my opinion is buy the newer twin step if you can and make small changes to fit your style and enjoy the boat. natures habit is you will try and make the flat bottom a twin step with all the new goodies, and that will cost morethan a twin step as is today...

Really I am a cat hull guy, with the insurance budget of a V-hull.
That Motion that was just listed is very tempting. But this thread is going exactly the way I thought it would. You just cn't justify the pricing on a conventional hull unless it is just something that you really WANT to do. I was looking at it from a deal standpoint, but it just won't end up being a deal in the long run I think. If it was sitting on a trailer, it might change things a little, but even then maybe not much. |
[QUOTE=jeff1000man;2840062]I am not sure. I like the speed of them, but I still like that solid conventional feel.
My twin step boats I've owned compared to flat bottoms were actually a better feel. Re entry was always better and the balance was better. |
