Opinions on 31 Bullet
I am looking for opinions on the 31 Bullet. I have never been in one, so can anyone give me an opinion on the performance, the cabin layout, and an overall opinion? From what I understand, it is a heavy 31 so I am guessing it will handle the rough stuff really well, but like most Cigarettes I bet it takes a lot of hp to get it moving fast.
Also, we like to spend the weekend on our boat a lot, so I am wondering how spacious (or not) the cabin/head is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |
i have a 89 bullet that i have had for about 3 years. bought it as a fixer upper and have almost completly restored it(twice)! it is a great riding boat and runs w/ alot of the bigger boys. it does like alot of power. the spec sheet i got stated dry weight as 8800lbs w/ 8'6" beam. top gun is 8' beam. the cabin is adequate. it has an enclosed head w/ elect toilet and sink. galley area w/ cooler and sink w/ pressure water and nice seating area. i have been very happy with mine and would love to talk more with you about it. you can call me at 912-313-8686. russ floyd.

Bullets.
Bn, I dont own a Bullet but I have worked on a few. One customer of mine has a 31 with 502's and TRS, its runs 74 every gay all day in the rough stuff. Have another customer with a 31 with 365's and Bravos run right around the same thing. Of course the Bravo boat is alittle easier to work on. Keep up the search, there great boats.

Great info, thanks! Russ, I will try to give you a call this weekend. Anymore info out there?

bullet
Check out the guys at Total Marine and Performance, LA. They have a gorgeous bullet for sale. The boat is all white, and has been completely re-rigged. The boat is one of the owners personal boat, and has been done right. All new Gaffrig Gauges, chrome throttles, IMCO Xtreme drives, external steering, K planes. The cabin has air conditioning, shore power, fresh water, enclosed head, and could easily sleep 3-4. For the $$$ you just can't beat the Bullet. This boat w/500HP's supposedly ran 79 MPH. I think it's a 1992. The best thing is, it has no power, so you can pick your speed, and price. They want 55,000 w/o engines.
I tried to buy the boat, but had trouble with the bank. If you are looking for a Bullet, this is the one. Talk to Stephen, 985-649-9888. |
Thanks MPH120, does Total Marine and Performance have a website? I was trying to find some pictures of it.
|
Ya, I did a search on "Total Marine and Performance" and came up with that pic too. I am hoping that that picture was taken before the boat was redone.
|
That picture was of the boat before it was redone. The boat is now solid white, all Gel coat. The entire dash and interior has been updated to white, as well as all the handrails, vents, etc. The boat is immaculate, and all hardware is new. Our website is under construction, but interested parties can e mail me for pictures. [email protected]. Please feel free to call me with any questions.

bn,
I had a bullet and found the boat to be very solid. The cabin is large for a 31. I had a pair of SC 502’s that dynoed at 550 HP. Boat would run 78.4 on GPS in fresh water. The new owner put on new bravo’s with low water pickups and supposedly picked up 4 mph. The bullet is very unique in it’s appearance. |
Can anyone that knows the 31 Bullet and the 31 Sonic tell me how they compare in size of cabin, cockpit, and overall size? How about a 32 Active Thunder?
I have friends with the 31 Sonics and a 32 AT, but I have never seen a 31 Bullet. BTW thanks Brad for the picture. I actually called on your (old) boat a couple of years ago when Martin Marine was selling it. |
i share a 31 bullet w 365 mercs /bravos it is a 91 with my uncle .. handles ruff stuff like its not even there.. go out in anything...it is heavy though only does aboue 65 with the365's. if you would like i could try to take some pics of my cabin if the rain lets up around here this week sometime and send them to you.. definetly consider this boat my other boat is a 28 foot outboard v bottom and the ride cant even come close to that of the bullet.. i cannot wait for some more power in it though..

When you are sitting in the front bolsters there is not much protection from the wind! |

Last one. Dash layout |
Theres on on the classified ads of OSO. It looks real clean and isn't to much if I recall.
I have a couple of questions for you bullet guys Why did cigarette do the raised deck on the sarboard side? Was there any reason for it? And can you put a flush motor cover on it instead of the raised one?? I've looked at them and have thought about buying one, though I'd prefer a cafe racer.:D Tank |
Allan Brown designed that boat along with the Revolution and Decathalon. He had some unique designs and other than attempting to be different, I believe that the deck of the Bullet was designed in this manner to give more headroom on the stbd side and in the enclosed head.

Hey BN:
We have a 90 with carbed HP-500's. It did 73ish last season with hurt props. It shoudl do at least 75 with fixed props and nose cones. It is heavier than most but its great in rougher water. In calm water the boat will only do 65. I need some good chop to get the 73 out of it. Its got more cabin space then many boats that are much larger. I agree teh bubbled deck adds in room for the head. We updated this one so if you need any info we are quite familiar. 248-682-2453 |
Thanks for the info! I will keep that one in mind.

It must be a good feeling knowing that you did all of the work yourself!! A very fine example of a restoration.:) In my opinion, there are at least five people that I know of that will be fighting to get their hands on your boat when it goes up for sale!! Craig |
I have been around "Bullet Proof" at a couple of poker runs and that boat is very nice. In fact, I was amazed that the boat was as old as he told me. Very nice. I think the best day was coming back from St. Augustine on the ocean to Daytona. We ran hard the whole way back.
If you put that boat up for sale you need to contact me, my buddy will buy her in a minute!! |

i owned a 1990 with the 502's (400hp) and bravos from 90-99 and that boat was sloooow. was like a tank. also, think the hull was designed poorly as the props were always loosing their bite in waves and chop. it was the worst, everytime you'd chop the throttle and punch it again, it would just rev up like you wouldn't believe and wouldn't regain the bite until you backed the throttle all the way back down again even though you running fully in the water again. maybe it was the way ours was mounted but i couldn't stand it, you couldn't even go fast when it got rough. also didn't like how the throttles are mounted right against the padding so you can't really get your hand around them, just had to hold them on top. just a few things i didn't like about it

Lose props and bad in the "rough"?????
dbhammer:
It sounds like you had the wrong props or possibly a bad "X" Dim. Was this a "stepped transon" Bravo boat? Or a TRS boat? I've never heard anyone with those problems. Particularly with such low power. Most had really conservative X's and you'd have to be out of teh water to slip the prop. As for being slow, it takes a bit of power to get a 9000lb boat with an 8'7" beam to get going but moderate power should get you in the 70's for sure. |
