Perfect Storm?

a few years back there was a top gun called "perfect storm" that ran at loto. it was one of my buddies dads friends boats (mike malone). anyway the boat got burned to the ground when it was in storage one winter, i was wondering if anybody had pictures of it? beautiful boat, it was a dark blue with airbrushed lightning bolds all over and a yellow interior. any help would be appreciated.

GREEK LIGHTNING 05-09-2009 07:58 AM

That was my old 02 Top Gun named 'Greek Lightning." I'll try and dig up some pics of it. There are some here on oso in the photos section. I think under Smoke on the Water PR or the Cigarette Family Reunion. God I loved that boat.

BLee 05-09-2009 10:14 AM

That boat was bad ass. Probably won't see anyone take it to that level very often. :(

I always loved that gun.......

twin screws 05-11-2009 09:45 AM

It looked better when Greek had it. Didn't have the scoops on it. He will not post any pics though, he is afraid I'm going to copy it. Right Bro.

My 3rd favorite after Adreneline and Speed Racer. For the record I loved the scoops!

GREEK LIGHTNING 05-11-2009 10:22 AM

Robert, what's mine is yours!! You know that. I have the photos boxed up from the move. I promise I will make you copies of everything as soon as I get motivated to search for them. I'm headed to Florida tonight till Saturday. Last minute decision.

I hate when I see photos of that boat cuz it reminds me what an idiot I was trading it in. Perfect boat and had enough speed to keep me satisfied. But no I had to order the 04 TG TS with #6's cuz some boat dealer planted the seed in my head!! :drink: I must have had a few martinis in me cuz it sounded like a great idea at the time......

Yeah, but if that #6 boat you built had worked.......

I don't think anyone could honestly blame you for wanting to build that beast. I damn sure would have. There was no way to have known that boat wouldn't turn out to be the ultimate Top Gun.

phragle 05-11-2009 10:56 AM

that was one sharp boat!

swiss 05-11-2009 04:56 PM

BLee it is a fun and exciting job to say the least! just wish i could do it full time!
i dont know why people are always hating on the scoops imo they were freakin awesome! and that boat was prolly in my top 10 for sure.

sommerfliesby 05-11-2009 06:07 PM

Loved it...and loved the "replacement" as well!

STRAIGHTPRIORITY 05-12-2009 08:19 AM

i love the 6 boat also.

Perlmudder 05-12-2009 11:27 AM

why did the TS TG #6 boat not work well? you would think it would be a beast

This may start a huge debate but I'll say it anyway...I assume it didn't work because T/S guns CG is not set up for those big azz 6's hanging off the back and trannies pushing the motors forward.

Greek, did you build that boat? Who painted the lightning? It really is a great paint job. Love the way it flows from the "storm" near the Cig emblem to the lightning striking across the bow. Great concept.

Which boat was the replacement with 6's?

yea but it works on toms boat, there had to have been something else that just needed to be tweaked.

I think there's a manner in which you need to drive #6 T/S's that take some learning curve. Tom has figured out how through "on the job training" and taking Tres's course. It runs good.

GREEK LIGHTNING 05-12-2009 05:47 PM

Tank, I did have this boat built. George P at Cigarette painted the boat and Gustavo and I designed it. There was another painter involved and if I remember correctly his name was Eddie. The replacement was that 2004 purple/blue 38 TG TS with large script Cigarette written on each side. Called it "Heavy Metal Thunder."

Plain and simple. The hull design of these boats are not the best for big power and excessive speeds. Just like a T/S Tiger, which is good to the low 90's before its handling characteristics start to deteriorate. Not all hulls are designed to do 100+ MPH.

Cool history. Sad it burned. :(

Any pics of "Heavy Metal Thunder"?

pm203 05-12-2009 10:40 PM

I saw Heavy Metal Thunder at Spinnaker. It was a beautiful boat. When I asked about it, I was told that it did not handle well and that the boat was too scary to drive at speeds. Kinda like a Frankenstein, shouldn't have been built. But, looks wise, it was killer!

Perlmudder 05-13-2009 12:43 AM

that is surprising. I know hot for teacher is a straight bottom, but man that thing flies. you would think that a TS would be even better

Hot for Teacher is a TS.

It runs perfectly, so there's a way. :coolcowboy:

sacaja 05-13-2009 11:03 AM

saw the lightning boat several times at loto, very nice indeed and sad ending to it. i am curious on the # 6 boats as i saw toms boat at desert storm last year and know it runs awsome, what about the yellow boat at cobra with big power and sixes? how does it run/handle?

your 6's are on boxes though arent they? I dont think mikes ts was, that could make a huge difference right there.

Hey, I did say your boat runs well.:drink:

I've run next to you in every imaginable water conditions enough that it is first hand info....However, I'll take a ride anytime.

pm203 05-13-2009 04:51 PM

Back in 05, there was a guy who wanted to order a new 38 TopGun with 1075's. Neil would not build it for him.
