Looking for 35' Hull

Hey guys. Anyone have a line on an old Cafe Racer? Looking for a hull less drives and motors or something that needs a major rebuild. I would consider an old Top Gun but prefer the Cafe. This will be a couple year project to do with my father, more so for the experience and the feeling on the first day she launches. No real rush but figured you guys are in the know. Thanks,

Justin

Chris Sunkin has one that he may want to part with, he has a bunch of stuff to go with it, not quite just assemble but pretty close.

Justin,
Have you checked out the boats at National Liquidators of the shoreway? They have two cigs that need engines and drives...

JBonz - Yeah, there was a decent Top Gun up there for sale. Not listed yet. Both of the other cigs are not really set up for what I was looking for, they are serious offshore rigs. I really want a Cafe with a finished cabin. I saw your dads boat tied up Sunday morning on B dock at Venetian.
Joe's Cafe was a couple down from it, we were at PutinBay for Octoberfest Saturday night (I stayed, he came back). Anyways, not sure what it is, but I really like the Cafes, also, this would be my first offshore so a Cafe is a good place to start. The Top Gun is a big jump from the 27' we have now. (I did hit 50mph on the way home w/ twin stock 350s though!)

frickstyle, I'll send you pictures on my Mistress tonight if you send me your e-mail address. I live in the north east corner of North Carolina about 30 miles from Norfolk Va. My Mistress is on a trailer and only needs minor work.

You like the cafe because the windshield/deck lines are different - arched back as opposed to straight across. There is a strong appeal there that people can't always put their finger on.

The Jump from the 27 to the cafe or top gun is the same jump. The extra 2.x feet make no difference, so don't let that be a determination if you run across a nice Gun.

That being said - look at Harvey's boat. It is known around here and everything I have ever heard on it is positive.

I am sure you are aware but buying a cafe that needs a major rebuild will end up providing you with one of the most expensive entries into performance boating ever. In my opinion there is so much to do and so many wrenching opportunities on ANY boat that is 20 years old that you might want to save your energy for those times, and buy one that is already done - there will be so many opportunities for your father and you to wrench on it - I PROMISE!!

Baja_man 10-13-2009 06:53 PM

A bit bigger than your looking, but add any power you want....

Justin,
That was actually my buddy Lyn's boat. We were back on the rack. I was back home and gave it an oil change. I did hear Joe come back that saturday.. The cafe sounded good. I do know our old 35' Mistress is forsale around Windsor Canada. Not sure of the shape it is now but, It was a wave crusher.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, that's why I really enjoy this website, good community going on here. My email address is [email protected] , please send pics of the Mistress and any others.

I guess I was looking for a hull only because of some personal reasons, including having something different, I know some of you can relate. I am aware that the cost is up there, I'm not trying to cut corners here. I agree that buying a boat that either needs assembly or already has power is a smart move, but I'm hard headed! This is not something I'm looking to have in the water in the spring, unless a nice powered boat comes up. I'll chase these leads, thanks again. That Cafe up in Mentor, Ohio looks reeeeaaaal nice!......

I have an 86' Cafe with 557" tunnel ram motors, Huber 1200's and upgraded #3 ssm's on a triple axle trailer I will let go for $45K. Boat runs strong just needs some TLC. I would also sell with out power for $30K.

Harvey 10-14-2009 03:45 PM

Tommy, did you get the Top Gun?

Offshoreracr 10-14-2009 03:58 PM

Don't buy this boat without the power - you won't get the hearing loss that you do for 45k.....:evilb:

Would probably help narrow it down if you posted what you can afford to pay for a bare hull.
Just a thought..

HOLY ****!!!

A stepped RR with a full cabin......That is my dream boat.

Never the less you would have to just about get the boat for free to not be dead in the water.

It is cut for 6's with no transom assemblies so figure your in for 75k for those items. A set of props for 10k, a trailer for 10k, and 100k in engines, plus let's be realistic and throw in 20k for "other stuff" and you're over the 200k mark already. Could be a lot when a boat like this one will probably sell close to that...

EDIT: Forgot to mention Trannies...

I dont see this going anyway as of right now been posted for a while not sure if he made a move or not.

Thanks for all the help. I was down in Miami looking at that 35' Playboy last week. That boat really strikes me as "the one". I still am partial to the Cafe but the Playboy is 10 yrs newer than most Cafes for sale and has steps. I think looking into a complete running boat is a smart move with the prices the way they are. I'll drop a line if I make a move on a Cig, business isn't doing what I want it to right now, we might be las tin line to "bounce back".....
