My New Toy!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Its been a tense couple of weeks, but I FINALLY have my new toy!!!! Why a credit union doesn't understand a USCG registration as proof of ownership is beyond me, but live and learn. :)

I have to give props to Jeff, he was a great guy to work with, and damn, what a boat!!!!! The work he did on it is amazing!!!

I'm tired from the long day driving to get this, but man, I am SO praying for even remotely decent weather tomorrow!!!

I'm sure a lot of you know this boat or have seen it before. Its moved a couple of hundred miles inland, and man, am I stoked to be the new owner!!! :)

I think I need a bigger truck..... My friend's towed it fine, but I think I need a new one now. :)

bigfarmer 11-14-2009 09:25 PM

RT930turbo 11-14-2009 09:36 PM

Awesome rig! Hope you can go enjoy it tomorrow!

anewway 11-14-2009 09:41 PM

Thanks Guys!

Yes, its a sweet ride! Jeff did an amazing job restoring her! Had to believe its an '89. And I am looking forward to a lot of years of enjoyment out of her. :)

Its big change for me to say the least, moving from a 25' Formula to a 35' Cigarette, but I'm seriously excited about it. :evilb:

thisistank 11-14-2009 09:53 PM

I've seen that thing in person when it was first done and Jeff brought it to Key West....It's f*ckin' bad azz! He did a GREAT job on it.

Congrats on the purchase. Very nice choice!

Bob, it was a pleasure meeting you today at Lewisville (I'm the young guy with the glasses who was in the Larson). It's quite a rig and I know you'll keep it pristine after talking with you for 5 minutes. Hope to see you again soon!

Great looking boat....CIG #1

excalibur27 11-16-2009 08:54 AM

Congrats on a great choice, a Cafe Racer. I actually was thinking very hard about purchasing that Cafe when it was on the East Coast before the redo. I bought one hailing out of North Jersey instead. I liked it when it was original. But wow .... what a first class job on the redo. I really like it now. It's downright beautiful. Good luck with it. I enjoy my Cafe. It's an incredible ride and very multi-pupose. For me, great cabin layout, high freeboard, and just the right length. Your excitement about it reminds me of when I brought mine home. What a great day that was. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Sounds like you've already started.

Noticed your in Plano does that mean we will see on Texoma?

JeffC 11-16-2009 11:29 AM

Hey guys,

It almost brought tears to my eyes when i whatched it pull out the driveway. I have had alot of great times in that boat. It definetly went to a good guy though. I hope that he has just half as much fun in that boat as i have had.

Congats on your new toy!!

UrbanDisturbance 11-16-2009 12:54 PM

Nice boat. Don't get an Automatic Dodge Dually. I had a 2000 automatic Dodge Dually 4x4, and I went through 4 transmissions in one summer pulling my 1994 Cig TOP GUN. I purchased a 2007 4x4 Dodge Dually Mega Cab, Manual Tranmissision and I have not had one problem since 2007. Too bad it cost me $42000 for the truck. I could have bought Arneson drives or something.

Sick Stinger 11-16-2009 01:45 PM

Nice Ride cant wait to get mine together. And next year will be paint. How does it ride???
-Mike

anewway 11-16-2009 02:04 PM

CigRacing1 - Mostly on Lewisville, but I'm sure we will make a trip or two up to Texoma at some point. For the next poker run if no other time.

Thanks Jeff! Like I said, its already been a ton of fun! :) Its an amazing ride and it can flat out make a turn! :) And it lives up to its name, one of the gals I took for a ride nearly lost her top. I love this boat already! :)

I'm thinking a 3500 Chevy crew cab, 4x4 with the Allison trannie to pull it. As near as I can figure, our ramp is a bit more slippery than most. The 2WD 3500 we were using was having troubles getting up the ramp. And I've seen this same truck pull a 43' Scarab up ramps several times with no hint of troubles. But, I will be going used, I've already made my big purchase of the year. :)

Hollowpoint 11-16-2009 03:48 PM

Congrats on probably the nicest looking Cafe out there.

You WILL love it in the rough stuff!

Sydwayz 11-16-2009 11:32 PM

Thanks Everyone! Yes, it is a head turner for sure! I literally had someone exit off the highway when I was towing home so they could catch me at a light and compliment me on it. And several other folks going out of their way to swing over to say something as well. I feel a little guilty since Jeff did all the work. :)

As for the speed, on the test drive, Jeff had it to 75 in Galveston Bay. I took it out Sunday and saw 72, but that was with both tanks full, five people aboard and dead calm water. And my second time driving it. :)

It was turning 5200 rpm, with some throttle left to go, so we are thinking about making a couple of runs with some 28 props instead of the current 26's to see what that does.

Jamie B. 11-18-2009 07:33 PM

Nice ride, welcome to the family of 1 !

Do some research. A upgraded valve body and torque converter is all that automatic transmission Dodges need. You could have spent $1000 dollars on your 2000 and would have been fine. You would have been $41,000 ahead.

Sick Stinger 11-19-2009 08:45 AM

Jamie they had a huge problem with the filtration and also low line pressure when they shifted with a load on them they slipped the clutched and prematuraly wore the clutches. Due to that and the poor filtering, got into the converter and valve body and boom there goes that trans.

Mike,

havent seen anything about the poor filtering you mention, but yep an upgraded valve body increases the line pressure and an upgraded TC has more and better plates/disc's. Problem solved. I've had 3 Cummins trucks so far with these upgrades ( and an added capacity trans pan ) and no problems whatsoever, all towing heavy.

Sorry for off topic boys !:drink:

No worries! I brought up needing a bigger truck, so its all good. :)

CignificantOther - Yes, a WAY different ride than the 25'. Not that the Formula has a bad ride, but it just doesn't compare to the Cigarette, without or without the extra 10'.

All I can say is I've had nothing but a grin on my face every since I picked this thing up. :party-smiley-020:
