How many 24' were made?

I've searched through the threads and see this question was asked a long time ago, but I haven't seen an answer....so, I thought I'd pose the question again. How many 24' Cigs were made and does anyone know of any for sale?

RT930turbo 04-15-2010 12:18 PM

I'd love to know the answer as well, sure don't see too many. I haven't seen any for sale recently either.

A 79 Firefox? Is it a 7' or 8' beam boat? I would love to see some pics! My '81 is still an early hull (8' beam, flat deck). I didn't think they built the Firefox's until later in the 80's.

Here's a shot of mine, is your son's similar to this one?

24 Firefox

Yes, looks just like yours without the hood scoop. I actually owned the boat 18 years ago and had the build sheet and bill of sale, its definately a firefox, its also on the title.Boat has always been in Michigan. I will try to post a photo, it never seems to work on this site for me.

Comanche3Six 04-19-2010 06:09 PM

I'm no expert, but I believe they were made in 1986-87. They came with 420hp trs drives and very $$$$$ Hawk 511 & #3SSM drives. MSO is in a box right behind me. I haven't looked at it in 10 years. I don't remember if it said Firefox on it................God, I'm lazy! LOL!

Hotboat1 04-19-2010 07:59 PM

I have one of the older 24's. 1972 with teak deck and twin 6 cyl's. Currently in restoration.

Comanche3Six 04-25-2010 06:02 AM

Looking at Cigarette's manufacturers statement of origin ......nowhere does it state "Firefox". It does spec the length at 24' 3 1/3" and the beam at 7' 4 1/2"

Comanche3Six 05-02-2010 08:06 AM

The HIN on my 24 is CRT24050E787. Other than that special 24 produced for racing purposes, I have often wondered if it was the last 24 Cigarette produced?

Hotboat1 05-02-2010 09:56 AM

It seems there are several 20's around but only a handful of 24's. Not sure if I can count over 6 or 7 for the entire run.

------And,,,Whirlwinds Cig is a beauty as I have seen it both in the Port Huron area as well as going by my house in East China. I have never been close enough to say HI, but maybe that will change this summer........Bill S

And the Later model race boat.

That makes 11... who else knows of a 24' hiding somewhere?!

wstultz 05-03-2010 01:48 PM

A friend of mine has a white and blue Firefox down here on Lake Conroe. Don't have any pics, sorry. He is restoring it right now.

Ghost24 11-12-2012 10:30 PM

Here are some pics of mine (continuing from the Cig Pic thread).

She's a 1972. Last year I was going to rebuild the inline sixes (which are now for sale btw) but when the transom rebuild was discovered to be poorly done, I went ahead and reconfigured to a single 496. New transom, new stringers to fit the single, HD transom assembly, bravo 1x, etc. Orlandi Performance, just south of Detroit, did the work. Brian's a real perfectionist. More projects to go over the next couple of years, but she's running beautifully. The rest will be mostly cosmetic.

Apologies in advance for the size of the first few pics, but I'm feling lazy.

Very cool. I was wondering what was up with the waterline exhausts a la twin I-6's... now I see! Neat project, all the teak looks like it's in great shape. That's a rare piece you have.

Hey guys - I saw this one about a month or so ago in Wisconsin. I did not get to talk to the owner. I think I've seen it for sale in the past - not sure what year it is.

That's the "boat trader" boat. Wish I had been more specific in these :lolhit:

So are we up to 13? Adding the red one above and Lap Dancer?

rvander68 11-13-2012 09:38 PM

Sorry, didn't mean to double count.....couldn't remember where I saw it before. Needless to say I was quite surprised when I saw it float in.

Forgot to add there are 3 other 24's on the same lake. I think an '80 red, '81 red, and ?? white side/deck with hockey stripe and red bottom. So 16 now?

rvander68 11-13-2012 09:44 PM

and another....17

whoops! Forgot another.....'86 firefox - red/white. Run's on the Illinois river, etc. Just met the original owner this summer - boat was in an industrial condo building.

Ghost24 11-13-2012 11:36 PM

There's an early teak deck twin six (blue with red boot stripe, white bottom) a little north of Chicago. Not sure if it's any of the others mentioned earlier. It looks like the one in Naples FL, but a few details make me *think* it isn't the same one.

northernoffshore 11-14-2012 12:00 AM

they was a grey 1 with twin 6 cyl. in ill. back in the 90's

Ghost24 11-14-2012 10:04 AM

NorthernOffshore, the grey one you mentioned, is that a grey-blue? I remember seeing one that I think was almost monochromatic--I think the deck and hullsides (and *maybe* the bottom were all one color of grey-blue.) It looked to have been recently redone and in excellent shape. Just can't remember where I saw it...

tom rockstroh 11-14-2012 01:35 PM

24 Cigarette

There was a Grey Hull Blue interior one here in MD with a single 330ish with TRS Drive. When I saw it in OC MD in 88/89 , It was still Gelcoat Original. Also, There was one built for Doc Magoon with two 200 Merc Outboards and was featured in a magazine article Maybe MB&S ? Late 70's?The boat sides were Dark Brown or Black with a Beige deck. Maybe is the one seen that is Blue now.

Sean 11-23-2012 09:01 AM

I may have mentioned in a previous thread that there is a white hull Firefox with red and blue stripes on the east end of long island. the name on the side is "In The Air Tonight" - Biggus has seen it too and we both have lusted after it... hahah. It went up for sale on craiglist a year ago and then disappeared...
