Mystique Porpose

I added XR drives with standard lenght sportmaster lower to my Mystique. Ive run a set of 6 blade herrings and a set of 5 blade hydromotives. The porpose is 100% gone. Hope this info helps any of you Mystique guys out there.

Notch or No on your boat?

Boomer35 09-17-2010 08:27 PM

From what I have seen and rode on all non stepped hull Cigarette's have a porpoise to them!! There is nothing to do to get rid of the porpoise, except by a TS Cigarette. but Mystique is the worse!! That is one of the reasons I sold my old Mystique!

Certainly straight bottoms have there share of porpose problems, and mystique was no exception, but blades can work miracle, and did in my boat. the entire attitude of my boat is different with the 6 blades. it gets on plane different, rides different, and doesnt porpose

if i remember right, your boat had 496's, bravo 1 drives, and 28p 4 blades.

Allicat38 09-18-2010 07:58 AM

You have my attention. what kind of money for that prop and what pitch are you running

Boomer35 09-18-2010 08:16 AM

30p 6 blades @ 4700rpm, so i think i need 28p 6 blades. Your best bet would be to call a prop shop and tell them what your spinning now, and they will steer you in the right direction greater blade props

That is great if you got rid of the low speed porpose on your Mystique buy using different props. I had 496 HO with 28p BBlade done props on my old Mystique. I liked the boat but it did not have the speed or the handling of the TS Cigarette's. I love the Cigarette I have now!

I dont know, looks like driver error to me!

Im not really sure what your getting at, as with any straight bottom, the mystique has a porpose, i dont think thats any mystery. I have spent 2 yrs chasing the problem because i love the size of the boat and of course the name on the side. The reason for the thread was to let any other Mystique owner know the porpose is gone with 6 blade props, and 90% cured with 5 blades.

The mystique did have a design issue, the dealers used to call them the "mistake". In 2001 when Cig used to advertise on TV even Niel Hernandez could not keep the boat level for a commercial.

I dont have much of a problem. It is not a beginner boat, thats for sure. They do porpoise but for the size and evrything in the boat being so far aft, i think that is a lot of the problem. Ciagrette could have given a little more space in the engine room. It may have helped with the weight distribution. A set of 525 would be nice in these boats

Stormrider 09-20-2010 08:41 PM

A set of raylar 525sbc would solve alot of the problem.

Are you enjoying my old Mystique? Have you used it alot? have not seen you post any pics? What speed have you gotton out of her!!

Allicat38 09-21-2010 03:33 PM

Yes, This past 2 months i have been using it alot. I havent gotten trips in like i wanted but i will next year for sure. Its a head turner around here. The porpoise sucks but it can be tamed. Its has been running constantly 76 thru anything comfortably i have come across. It likes some speed and some rough water. I like your 35. I may look for one in a year or 2 and a 38 is not out of the question either. Still have to get rid of this Ocean Yacht.
Im actually heading out to try this title thing again for the trailer. This is the last time , i have advice from a lawyer in the family to try again. Next move is she can take it and deal with it. call me when i have a title. Thats the next step.

How is that 35 treating you, Hopefully problem free. I saw your red eye video. Makes me want to be there. I may be down at red eye this weekend if weather and a few other things work out. I really like the 35. you think you may want to get rid of it in about 2 to 3 seasons.

What pitch 5 blade and were they labbed? What kind of speeds were you getting compared to a 4 blade?

Was there a big difference in performance between the 5 hydromotives and 6 herrings?

Got Cigs 06-15-2011 06:24 PM

Boomer, just curious if you dialed in your props yet.... if so, what kind of speeds are you getting?
