What to do What to do
Recently attained a cig 28 ss that some of you may have passed on! I'm thinking about making it a single. I've heard of several 27' Mags that have been made singles but never a 28' cig? Anyone? What do you all think? By the way this boat doesn't have to break the sound barrier i'm thinking mid 60's to 70mph. What would it take for power? Thanks in advance for any input. Rich

28cig is a much bigger boat than a 27mag.
go w/ stock twin sbc's if you are looking for less hassle. Changing that to a singe will be a disaster moving stringers, filling transom and all that. You'll need a hell of a BBC to get that boat into the upper 60s. |

I'm guessing it's the all white 28 that had been bounced around to a bunch of members here? Cool boat and the price was RIGHT! I assume that boat has small blocks. Yea, it's more money to maintain and fuel but you have the peace of mind knowing you can get home safely if a motor or drive goes. Easier to manage around the docks...Then there's the whole thing that it's less stress on two drives than one and of course the simple fact a 28' boat with twins is just bad azz! Don't make it a single. |

Negative! Don't make a twin a single. It's usually attempted the other way around.

We had a 73 Open that was converted a single BBC and it ran very well. With a modified 500HP the best we ever saw was 63MPH-65MPH. Can't find the ad in the classifieds, but here are a couple of pictures for reference.
http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/c...-unedited.html The 28's are great boats. I remember seeing the bills for the work the previous owner did to correctly change it from a twin to a single and it was $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Unless it is rotted and you need to take out the transom, I would stay with twins as well. |

Too heavy. It will be a dog out the hole and you will need a little more drive than a bravo one, XR would be minimum.

Well, I started taking everything out, The engines both 4 bolt main sbc's and the drives volvo 280t's(boat anchors) are off the boat. I'm going to loose several hundred pounds from useless plumbing and heavy cast manifolds and risers. On the plus side all is very dry! and stable! Looking like i'll be going with new sbc's and bravo's? At this point the plan is to leave the boat as original as posible with the exception of the driveline, This interior isn't even that bad! May have to have a few patches made up but aside of that all the original SW gauges are still functional, Controls(oldschool morse) still good. This one will definetly be function over form. But she's gotta be an old school classic? Pic's to come GMG
