38 Flat Deck Question
 

I have read alot about the old Cigarette's being heavy and great in rough water. I have an 85 Kevlar flat deck. Does anybody have any idea what the weight is and the difference in weight between a Kevlar and non Kevlar boat is?

I have my owners manual from my 86 flat deck Ill have to photo copy the page it says that my boat weighed something like 8600 Lbs. I know its more like 11k haha.

I had mine weighed on scales and it came in at 14,700 lbs. Subtract the aluminum trailer at 1700 lbs. (per title), 60 gal fuel, 3 batteries, 3 amps, 18 speakers, 6000 btu marine a/c.... I'm guessing close to 12,500 is actual weight of my resin bucket.

US I was hoping it would lighter than that being Kevlar. My 43 Scarab off the trailor weighted almost 15,500 lbs. But I guess that is why they ride so well in the big stuff. My 43 went 72 mph on gps with the power and drives I am trans-planting to the FD , given the weight reduction I am hoping to see low to mid eighties . I hope I am not dreaming in color.

The Kevlar ones are supposed to be at least 1000#'s lighter.

I was told, a long time ago, by Cigarette that they were only 500lbs. lighter.

I have a related questioned on construction.
Were the FD's hull sides cored at all. My old formula 302 was cored in the bilge area my FD dose not appear to be, is that correct ?

On my 1986 flatdeck the bottom is cored from the transom to about 2 feet into the cabin. The sides have no core.

On the kevlar subject, look in some areas of raw fiberglass it should be gold in color if its kevlar. My boat was supposed to be a kevlar but I haven't found any kevlar except where I put it in. The construction of my boat is considerably lighter than my brothers 1986 flatdeck, it looks like the factory built them a little different.

Kris thanks for the info. When I installed new aluminum motor mounts I had to drill some new holes in the stringers and it is in fact Kevlar . I am familiar with kevlar as well as I have used it in the past. I was unsure at first but the work I have done since I bought confirms it is in fact a Kevlar boat.
