All around best performance,,,,or inching out every last MPH?

All around performance and docking manuverability,,,, out,,,,, every last mph,,,,in

seafordguy 01-02-2011 09:22 AM

Guys have picked up a little speed with them spinning IN. Mine spin out.....

CigDaze 01-02-2011 09:34 AM

For all around best performance, stability and docking spin 'em out.
The speed increase spinning in is negligible and not worth it on a Cafe, in my opinion.

SKRAMER 01-03-2011 07:08 AM

I spin mine in..

My experience was 3 blades will give the best mph,(1+ mph) but cruising speed suffered not to mention when you going along at 50mph and punch it the 4 blades will give you more bite and better acceleration. Call Brett at BBlades and have him set up a set of props for that new power.

I run 4 blades spinning out.

Havasu Hangin 01-04-2011 11:54 AM

I turn Bravo 4 blades out, but I have 2" shorties.

I tried turning them in, but the boat didn't seem to carry the nose as well- could be the shorties.

Did you pick up anything going to the shorties?

park35 01-04-2011 03:31 PM

Did u gain any speed?how does the boat run with the shortys?

Havasu Hangin 01-05-2011 01:29 AM

The boat is more definately more loose with shorties (XR drives). Maybe the shallower X means the inward rotation won't let the props carry the nose as well? Not sure- it just felt tighter (less sensitive to trim) spinning in.

It's really tough to compare apples to apples (fuel load, water/air conditions, etc.), but I think I picked up at least a couple MPH with the shorties.

The downside is that the props slip more getting on plane, but frankly, the slipping is probably saving them with the torque I have. Also, in the rough, the do seem to come out of the water a little quicker.

I am adding 380 tabs this winter, and trying to decide whether to add boxes to set the props back farther (or convert to Arnesons).

If you have the money to burn, I would go with the Arneson drives. If you don't have the money, you might just want to keep what you have. GAS maybe as high as $5.00/gallon by the end of 2011 or 2012.....and that is not super unleaded!!!!!!

What power and speed are u getting with ur set up

I have GT Performance 750's, so I am on the edge with the XR's.

http://www.performanceboats.com/gall...nes_4-9-05.jpg

It will do 80 under almost any conditions, and mid-80's with light load and good water/air. I think there's a little more in her with the setup (and maybe a little more boost...lol)

5,600RPMs x 1.5 ratio x 28" props = 84MPH @ 15%slip

I put new motors in last year...now I'm debating putting anymore money into it, since I'd like to go bigger in the near future. Do I put the boxes on? Arnesons? Herings?

Just not sure right now...lol.

That looks real sweet, don't know about the surface drive though, maybe some here has tried that already, good luck with it

I hear ya. I heard they had some luck with Arnesons on straight-bottomed Guns, but the Guns also have notches.

It just would be nice not to worry about breaking drives...maybe I should swap out the uppers for Imco SCX's and call it a day.

Not all of the Gig's had a notched bottom. The late 90's I believe do have the notch but the 80's do not to my knowledge and it made no difference between the two. I've got them on both with great results.

Sea-Dated 01-06-2011 11:32 AM

I would love to see a Cafe' with Arnesons and see how it works.

You go first (and don't forget the Herings...lol).

Rik 01-07-2011 01:27 AM

You can use the Merc's also, but the pricing between the two is so close that it really is a coin toss either way. The Herings will let you try/exchange though and Merc will not.

kreed 01-07-2011 08:33 AM

Maybe you can give a discount if the both do it a the same time! :lolhit:

OK but I don't think Rik will like it when that check bounces higher than a super ball off a trampoline........:lolhit::lolhit:

Then let's just make sure you get some good testing in before he takes them back!

You may want to just try it yourself. As a temorary switch with Bravos, you can swap the props and just shift reverse to go forward.

If you keep them longterm, you probably should swap the drives so the gear pattern is consistant.
